IUD procedure

What's the actual procedure like? I was going to get one at my last appt but they made me wait until today (hadn't had my first postpartum period yet). I also thought I'd get Mirena but the doc recommended paragard.
Anyway, the appt is at 3, and I'd like to hear your thoughts on how it went, what it was like, and any tips to make it go more smoothly if you have them.

Re: IUD procedure

  • I'm glad to read all these responses that it wasn't painful for most of you - I had Mirena before we got pregnant with Anna and it hurt like a bitch going in and I had terrible cramping for a week afterwards. They do say it's easier after you have a baby, so I think I will get it again after this LO is here.

I would recommend taking some ibuprofen beforehand just in case you do end up having cramps, easier to stay ahead of it that way. GL!

  • I didn't think the procedure was that bad, just uncomfortable. Definitely take some ibuprofen (pp dosage) ahead of time. It is very nice not to have to think/worry about bc

  • Thanks everyone! It's nice to get your feedback instead of googling and freaking myself out with horror stories. I took the ibuprofen and am here early so that I won't be stressed going in. :)
