Spring

What projects are you ready to tackle?

I want to get my garden in. Put new rubber mulch around our walkway and plant some flowers. I also want to put some grass seed down in a couple of bare spots.

I am also ready to hit the trails with my bike!!

Re: Spring

  • Our backyard landscaping is a NIGHTMARE.  We have a raised ranch, kind of set into a hill, so our house looks like it is one level from the front, but if you are facing the back it looks like two levels, and we cleared EVERYTHING out last year so it is a completely naked white house from the back.  It looks awful.  There is a mound of dirt and rock under our raised porch.

So, backyard landscaping would be #1

  • Our house is only about 1/2-3/4 of the way fenced from our adjacent neighbor's fences. I'm ready to fence that crap off so we can enjoy our humongous yard.
We bought the house over Thanksgiving break so we haven't explored it yet. From what I remember in the fall, there's a lot of leaf/brush cleanup to do which we're hoping to get someone do for us. Also those one or two days there wasn't any snow on the ground, we noticed a couple of huge pond like holes in the back (well not as big as a pond but kind of the size of a kiddie pool.) I imagine we'll have to fill those up & put some grass seed on those spots.
Then I'm hoping we can put a shed up. This would probably empty half, if not more, of what's in our garage.
Also, we're going to wait until everything blooms to see if we have anything pretty in the garden area & if not, we'll plants some things to spruce it up.
I'm just excited to be outside & not freeze to death. I just want to enjoy our property since it's about double the size as our previous house.
We have two spots like this as well. and one is by the fire pit i had DH build last year!!!  We need to fill these up asap i need s'mores damnit!!

We had spots like this last spring, and we filled them up and laid seed. The grass grew. Then after it got cold, snowed, and melted, one spot -- just one! -- was filled with brown grass. So now we have a filled in circle of presumably dead grass. wtf.

  • To answer the question, our big project this spring/summer is going to be redoing our kitchen.

As for outside, we're hoping to repaint the house and redo the back yard -- it's horribly uneven and the grass grows in all different directions, so we want to just rip it up, level it, and lay sod. In reality, though, we're probably just going to end up trying to remember to keep the grass mowed and the gardens watered ;)

And I can't wait until it's hot enough to go swimming!!

I would rather see a spot of dead grass then a mini pool in my back yard. That BTW DS is drawn to like a magnet!
  • I am jealous of everyone with houses and yards that they own and have to fix up/landscape.. Every year I trim the trees/bushes here and at my MIL/FILs house next door, and I am always fixing stuff around both houses, because I know I can do it better than FIL lol.... But I just don't get the same level of pride since they're not my houses... And FIL couldn't care less.

So who wants to pay off some student loans for me? :P

Guuuurrrrllll.. I'm trying to figure out how to pay off my own. The thought of just letting them be & being forgiven in 20ish years is tempting but I'd really like to wipe them out beforehand.
Kind of hard without a job... lol :/
Wait, what about the being forgiven after 20 yrs? What's that all about? Is that only for special people :) ?

Alls I know is that for federal student loans, your balance gets forgiven as long as you make your payments the whole time. Mine are income based so my payments are tiny, some are even nothing but I have to make sure I submit an application every year which can be annoying.
They used to be 30 years, Obama signed it recently that it's 25 years, if I'm remembering correctly.
No idea if this applies to private loans, though.
    Boooo they're alll private....ugh
They're all my husband's, too. I got PAID like 1k a semester to go to college lol
Before I set him straight, he didn't care about money at all, and was too lazy to get scholarships or anything helpful. Too bad it's too damn late now. At least I was able to teach him that "Oh, it's just $20, who cares?" doesn't fly when you say it ALL THE TIME. Men. Amirite?

  • We'll be prepping are garden for the summer- fertilizing and installing sun shades because it gets a lot of direct sun in the summer.  We also need to re-stucco and think about a new roof, but I'm not sure if we'll get to both this spring/summer
