Re: Weekly Check-In: February 25
1.) How are you related to adoption/fostering and what type (DIA, IA, Foster to Adopt, etc) are you involved with? PAP foster to adopt
2.) Where are you in the process? Any accomplishments or set backs? Feel free to vent!
Wading through the paperwork and we have our second home study visit tomorrow.
3.) AR-QOTW - What is the one thing you are/were most scared about with your adoption?
I am most worried that we won't be able to form an attachment or that the child(ren) are unable to.
4) Non-AR-QOTW - Have you always lived in the same location or have you moved away from where you were raised?
I move quite frequently. Lived in the same area until I was 23, since then I have lived in Boston, London, Seattle & now Denver.
1.) How are you related to adoption/fostering and what type (DIA, IA, Foster to Adopt, etc) are you involved with?
DIA
2.) Where are you in the process? Any accomplishments or set backs? Feel free to vent!
Waiting, waiting, waiting... We are still in the paperwork/home study stage, but I feel like right now we aren't DOING anything.
3.) AR-QOTW - What is the one thing you are/were most scared about with your adoption?
What if we wait for years and years and never get chosen?
4) Non-AR-QOTW - Have you always lived in the same location or have you moved away from where you were raised?
Different towns, but mostly in the same general area.
1.) PAP - foster to adopt
2.) Waiting to hear from the licensing specialist. Called the agency today and our application is on the supervisors desk as of yesterday (she was out sick). Was told that if I don't hear anything in two weeks to call back. The good news was they already had our background checks complete, which apparently can be a hold-up. Just waiting again.
3.) Since we are foster with willingness to adopt, I'm scared about the attachment that we will have with a child and then have to give them back. We know it's part of the process, but it doesn't make it any easier.
4) I've always been in the greater Milwaukee area. Hated it younger, but have fallen in love with my city as an adult.

LONG road through IF ending in heartbreak and frustration.
IA from China
2.) Where are you in the process? Any accomplishments or set backs? Feel free to vent!
Our dossier is in China and we're waiting for a referral. China releases new files about once a month of children newly eligible for adoption and last night I had my hopes up that our family was about to change forever, but it wasn't meant to be. Even though it's expected it'll take three to four months to receive a match, I was still really disappointed.
3.) AR-QOTW - What is the one thing you are/were most scared about with your adoption?
Adoption from China is all special needs at this point and it was really scary when we first delved into what the typical needs are and the realities these children and their families face. While I'm still a little scared of the unknown, (medical information is really slim and often unreliable or incomplete) knowledge is power and I feel more comfortable with a lot of scenarios that seemed so overwhelming before I started researching.
4) Non-AR-QOTW - Have you always lived in the same location or have you moved away from where you were raised?
I grew up in New Jersey, went to school in New England, lived in Europe and landed permanently in Minnesota, which I consider my adopted home.
Son #2 - October '11
Son #3 - Hoping to adopt from China some time in 2014!
Our adoption journey: Talkin' 'Bout the Next Generation
1.) How are you related to adoption/fostering and what type (DIA, IA, Foster to Adopt, etc) are you involved with?
Adoption from Foster Care :-)
2.) Where are you in the process? Any accomplishments or set backs? Feel free to vent!
Working through home study. Went to adoption support group meeting this week and that helped! Working with our social services group and working towards a match. Things are starting to move and I am excited and nervous.
3.) AR-QOTW - What is the one thing you are/were most scared about with your adoption?
For me it is regular parent stuff..scared just like I would be if I were preggo and life is about to change. Excited at the same time.
4) Non-AR-QOTW - Have you always lived in the same location or have you moved away from where you were raised?
We move a good amount :-) I love seeing the country and world.
DIA
2.) Where are you in the process? Any accomplishments or set backs? Feel free to vent!
We have been matched for a few months now. Baby is due in May.
3.) AR-QOTW - What is the one thing you are/were most scared about with your adoption?
Scared of a failed match at the end. But I know everything is out of our hands and we have nothing but trust and faith that everything will work out the way it should be.
4) Non-AR-QOTW - Have you always lived in the same location or have you moved away from where you were raised?
I live about 30 minutes away from where I grew up.
1.) How are you related to adoption/fostering and what type (DIA, IA, Foster to Adopt, etc) are you involved with?
Hopeful foster/adoptive mom
2.) Where are you in the process? Any accomplishments or set backs? Feel free to vent!
The licensing worker came yesterday to get new copies of insurance cards and we had to resign our application since they have taken so long these things expired. LW says our HS is approved and going to Trenton today and they will call and schedule our final inspection within 2 weeks. I don't believe anything he says regarding timelines anymore but am cautiously excited. I could have a foster in a month!!
3.) AR-QOTW - What is the one thing you are/were most scared about with your adoption?
Mostly that we will bond, think we will be able to adopt and the child will go back to a bad situation. Well that or they will be emotionally disturbed (that is probably the wrong term) and harm DS or our pets.
4) Non-AR-QOTW - Have you always lived in the same location or have you moved away from where you were raised?
I was born in Canada and lived there until I was 16, moved to PA and now to NJ.
2. We had our first training class last night and it really made us feel optimistic.
3. I think our biggest fear right now is that we will have a long wait for placement. That fear was somewhat alleviated at our class last night but I think it's always in the back of our mind.
4. We live 15 minutes from each of our parents and the homes we grew up in.
Rainbow Surprise Baby due 05/26/2017
1.) How are you related to adoption/fostering and what type? DIA
2.) Where are you in the process? Any accomplishments or set backs? Feel free to vent!
Waiting. We had our first profile showing at our primary agency. It was between us and another couple but the EM selected the other couple. We also completed our paperwork for a second agency last night.
3.) AR-QOTW - What is the one thing you are/were most scared about with your adoption? Just the unknown- location, time frame, birth mom, etc. I'm a type A personality.
4) Non-AR-QOTW - Have you always lived in the same location or have you moved away from where you were raised?
I was born in MA but I've lived in NJ for the majority of my life. I moved around a little within the state but we're settled in our home.
5 Angels
2.) Where are you in the process? Any accomplishments or set backs? Feel free to vent!
Still no progress towards finalization.
3.) AR-QOTW - What is the one thing you are/were most scared about with your adoption?
Well, we're most scared about disruption after placement, but the most difficult thing to deal with on a daily basis is the uncertainty and lack of control at every stage.
4) Non-AR-QOTW - Have you always lived in the same location or have you moved away from where you were raised?
I'm on my third major metropolitan area and am hoping to stay despite being across the country from my family. I hate moving.
~ Hoping to add to our family by adoption via Connecticut DCF. Application submitted on 2/4/14. First home visit on 6/23/14. Started class 11/17/14.~
1.) How are you related to adoption/fostering and what type (DIA, IA, Foster to Adopt, etc) are you involved with?
DIA
2.) Where are you in the process? Any accomplishments or set backs? Feel free to vent!
Waiting... waiting and even more waiting. Trying to keep busy with a new job and focus on that versus the wait time! We are starting to wonder if we should sign with another agency along with our primary one... I don't even know if that is legal here in MN.
3.) AR-QOTW - What is the one thing you are/were most scared about with your adoption?
How long this wait is going to be. I always have been scared of the wait time. I am not a person who likes to relinquish control to other people regarding things in my life so this whole process is all new...
4) Non-AR-QOTW - Have you always lived in the same location or have you moved away from where you were raised?
I was raised in central Minnesota... for college I moved to the 'big city' then moved back to my home town... When I met the hubs he and I moved back to the 'big city'. I love Minnesota, though this year I would be EXTRA thankful and in love with it if winter would just end finally.
1.) PAP through DIA
2.) Waiting to be matched!
3.) Ditto @strawberryglobug, I'm worried about the details - location, time, all that jazz.
4.) We are currently living in my grandparents house, about 10 minutes from both of our parents. I went to school in Philly (we're from the Pittsburgh area) so that's the farthest I have lived away from home. I've moved 3 major times and I don't want to do it ever again. I hateeeee moving.
TTC # 1 Since October 2010 (Not preventing since 2009)
November 2013: Applied & Accepted by the Agency
January 2014: Home Study, education class, Profiles
February 2014: "Officially Waiting"
2.) Where are you in the process? Any accomplishments or set backs? Feel free to vent! We're waiting out the remainder of our 6 month fostering period that's required by our state. We got a big packet of more paperwork (does it ever end?!) to start preparing to transfer parental rights to us officially. I might start planning our adoption meet & greet party for the LO and work on putting together a registry... or not, depending on how the rest of the week goes and if everyone in my house still has colds. LO has RSV which has not been fun for anyone this week.
3.) AR-QOTW - What is the one thing you are/were most scared about with your adoption? I have to completely agree with @annalisel ! I could handle the wait before we were matched, but living in limbo after placement was tough. It's hard when you just want to love them and dream about a future with them but know there is still a chance that their birthparents might change their minds.
4) Non-AR-QOTW - Have you always lived in the same location or have you moved away from where you were raised? I've always lived within the same state. I grew up in a small town then moved across the state to Milwaukee for college. After graduation we moved to be closer to family and also so we could settle down in a smaller town that's still within a reasonable commute to a larger city.
1/13 Decided to pursue DIA, 4/13 Home study Approved 9/13 Matched!
10/13 DS home with us! 2/14 TPR completed 5/14 ADOPTION IS FINAL!
3/14 Surprise BFP 11/14 DD is here!
2. We just sent in the last big packet before individual interviews and home study. We finished our parenting classes and have all the physicals, fingerprints, and other little things done. Were having a fence installed around our pool in a few weeks and trying to go thru the home checklist of things we need to get done.
3. I'm most nervous to get really excited about a potential match and then it not happen...
4. I've moved a bit... Three different cities so not too bad. So cal to Denver to central cal where I now know I could never leave it's beautiful here!
