Due date time crunch!

FTM here with a question about healing. Baby is due June 9th and I'm standing up in my brothers wedding on June 28th. As if we don have enough to worry about, I have to fit into that bridesmaid dress. I met with the alterations lady and she's great and is confident she can make it work. But she brought up the ....what if he's late plan. My question is in regards to healing. What's the typical (is there such thing as typical?) healing time and if he's on time, is it likely that I will feel up to standing up in the wedding? And what if he's late??? What are the chances I won't be able to stand up for the wedding? I know every person is probably different but any feedback would be appreciated.

Yikes! Did your OB give you a "no later than" date? My ob said no later than the 15th and I'm due the 8th. After that I have no clue in regards to healing time. Good luck though!!

I guess it really all depends on how "traumatic" your birth may or may not be (I mean body trauma). I would bet that on time or late, you'd be just fine for the wedding.

I was feeling up to walks and such around a week PP with both babies. Do you know how long the ceremony will be?

I think it really depends on your labor, severity of any tears, etc. And of course if LO is late or you need a c-section.

Im almost in the same situation- FTM due June 10th and in a wedding July 11th. If my babe decides to "cook" for 2 weeks extra, I don't know how prepared Ill be! I did order my dress a few sizes up, so there will be room for alterations. I'll be following this post to see what other mommas say...

I don't have any advice on the healing part, but as someone who has coordinated a bunch of weddings, I would tell your brother (or his fiancee) that there is a possibility you won't be able to stand at the altar so they are prepared.  You could always walk down the aisle and then take a seat in the front row with the rest of the family if you don't feel like you can stand for the whole ceremony.

So glad you posted this! I am also in the same situation - due 6/8 and in a wedding 6/28.  I'm kind of just keeping my fingers crossed LO comes a little early or right on time...

With DS I had a natural birth with an episiotomy and was walking around target 2 days later and feeling almost normal after a week. I would be more concerned about your exhaustion level.

Honestly, no one can really answer this question. It all depends on your body. Before and during my first pregnancy I was pretty active. I had a vaginal delivery, 2nd degree tear, but not major issues. I left the hospital a day after having my son and felt great. 3 to 4 days later I spent a lot of time walking around and being on my feet and I regret it completely! By day 4 I felt worse than I did at any point since delivery. I has pain all in my abdomen and back and pelvis. I thought something was seriously wrong. But it turned out i just did too much too soon. So hopefully your LO is on time or even a week or two early that way you get plenty of healing time. If he's late or you have to be induced because he's really late, I'd suggest rethinking your plans!

I went on a 45 min walk 5 days after giving birth.  I was out and about every day.  My guess is you'll be fine doing it (or might have to sit in the front during the ceremony), but you will probably be exhausted and might not want to.  

I had a long, fairly traumatic vagin birth.  I have no advice if you need a c-section.  I woulddefinitely make sure your brother was prepared for any eventuality.

I had cesarean sections, and if you were to have to have one, sitting is harder than standing, well the transition is, so once you're standing you would be fine. My cousin who delivered vaginally was up and about back to regular household stuff once she was home from the hospital, hell an hour after each LO was born she was outside of the hospital getting fresh air, and her 2nd LO she was 42w2d when she was induced to have her. So I would think you would be fine. Not sure about if you were to tear but I would assume you would be okay since @mtgrizgirl mentioned she tore and could stand for periods of time and walk without much issue. So I wouldn't stress too much.

After birth I was happy standing...it was the sitting that hurt! I'd worry about any long travel associated with a wedding. If it's close you should be ok for a short ceremony.

My BIL got married 5 days after I gave birth (medicated vaginal with an episiotomy).  I attended about an hour of the reception.  I think I'd rather have gone to the ceremony, looking back on it.  I found it exhausting, but it was worth it to go. I think that far out you'd be fine.

With DD I tore and had three stitches. However, I had no problem getting up and around. Sure I was sore down there but it wasn't bad IMO. I remember taking her to Target at like two days old because we decided we actually did need pacifiers, and we had no groceries haha. Obviously everybody is different but I just wanted to throw out there that I definitely could have been a bridesmaid a week and a half after DD was born. If you end up with a c section I would guess probably not, but vaginal shouldn't stop you.

I delivered my son 11 days late and was set to be induced on a Monday which would have been 14 days late had I not had him on my own.  My OB hasn't told me how long he'll wait this time but he did say that we would not wait as long as we did with my son.  I had one stitch with a vaginal delivery and was cleared to do any activity when I left the hospital.  I am very active and worked up until 40 weeks exactly.  I took things easier the first week, just normal errands but started with a personal trainer in week 2 and I think that helped me with energy levels but everyone is different.

It depends on your body so no one can give you a definitive answer.  I was up and about after I left the hospital.  I really think the sitz bath the hospital gave me really helped my tears heal fast.  I don't remember bleeding for very long after, maybe a week.

Honestly I felt great 8 hrs after my first was born. I was up walking around and so ready to leave. I had a fairly easy labor and delivery. No stitches or tears. It depends on how labor goes I'm assuming.

Everyone is different. With DD I had a 2nd degree tear and hemhorraged. I went to Walmart the day I got out of the hospital. 5 weeks post partum, DH and I were going at it again. 

With DS, I on!y had skidmark tears, pooped 30 minutes after delivery and took the kids to the park the day that I got out of the hospital. I was on my own and had no support because DH was deployed. So I was going to all of the check ups, grocery shopping, etc on my own until he came back 5 weeks after DS was born. 

I'm due June 19 and am planning to attend my class reunion picnic on July 5th.

Thanks for the advice ladies. You all are wonderful! Thankfully the wedding and reception are close to home, and at a hotel so if I am exhausted, I can go take a nap! Just praying that my little man comes on time!

i went a week late...I'd talk to your doctor..mine would let me go longer but I had low amniotic fluid. They started to induce but the techniques they were using weren't working. I went into active labor waiting to be transferred to L&D to get pitocin.

I had an episiotomy and 3rd degree tear. I had a very difficult time sitting with the stitches and bleeding for about 7 days or so. After that I wouldn't say I felt normal..but better. But, I agree with the pp, the lack of sleep kills you as well.

This same situation happened to my best friend.  She made it down the aisle, but standing during the ceremony became difficult and she had to sit down.  The bride's family all gave her the side eye because they didn't know the whole situation.

Whatever you decide, make sure you communicate with the bride, the coordinator, and anyone else that may be running the show.

That day I was still tip-toeing around the hospital but by day three I was power shopping at Target to get all the stuff I needed. No one was allowed anywhere near my vagina for weeks but as far as regular activity I was up to my normal stuff. I would say by that point exhaustion from carrying for a newborn would be your biggest worry unless you end up needing a c-section or have a more complicated recovery in which case all bets are off. The biggest question mark for me would be the dress. Everyone loses the weight at different rates. I was shocked by my body afterwards. Don't get me wrong I knew I'd look bigger still but I wasn't expecting it to be distributed in such a large, saggy pouch of excess skin and fat. It took time to get some actual stomach muscles back. I think I'd thought I'd look a few months pregnant with the semi firm rounded stomach but not so much.

I had a c section and was walking 2-4 miles a few days after surgery. I resumed all normal activities by 2 weeks and was jogging by week 4 with no complications. Everyone's body heals differently but my dr said the sooner I get moving the better.
