Can't believe I didn't think of this!

DH asked me yesterday where we should put our changing table.  I thought it was a dumb question, it's in the nursery...  Why would we move it?  Well, then he asked me where are going to change diapers when DD1 is napping.  Well, she naps once a day, for maybe an hour, is it that big of a deal?  Uh... how about when she goes to bed and sleeps through the night.  Pretty sure we aren't taking baby in there to change her and wake up DD1.  How did I not think of that?  Now, I'm a little worried about what other obvious things I haven't even considered...

Re: Can't believe I didn't think of this!

  • I probably wouldnt have thought of it either lol.
Do you have a pack n play? They usually come with a changer thingy.
Or just lay a towel down and change the baby on the bed or couch.
Just a thought :-) I think that's what we will do but with one of the portable changer pads

  • I have a pack n play without the changer, otherwise that would be fantastic!  I suggested the bed or couch, or we could even make a little palette on the floor in our room.  DH wasn't excited about that - said that we would need the table, because it has the wipes, extra diapers (we cd), and extra clothes if we need them.  Which, if he's offering to get up and change her for me in the middle of the night while I get ready to feed her, then I can't complain too much that he wants the changing table moved :-)
  • Yea I would just move it to your room or where ever you have room :-)
  • I never used my changing table except as storage. I always used my bed.

  • I bought a second to keep one in DS room, one in the nursery and I bought a changing pad to put on a short dresser we have downstairs in the playroom. I like changing tables...

  • We had the furniture piece one in the bedroom for DS1 & DS2, then just bought an additional insert that I kept on the main level & would pull it out/change them on the floor.
  • We don't have a changing table, just a pad upstairs and down. Easy enough to stash supplies with each. He's overthinking it and making you overthink it, too!

  • I'm not particularly worried about changing her wherever, he's the one concerned about that and wants the table.  It just made me panic wondering what else I hadn't considered!  I felt pretty prepared until DH thought of something I hadn't yet...  And something that you will do so often too!
  • I'm about to make myself sound super classy here. Our downstairs one was on top of our liquor cabinet. It was the perfect height and was a flat, empty surface. We had another up in the nursery but I wasn't about to walk up the steps every 2 seconds to change her diaper!

So, basically, it can be anywhere, don't stress! If you aren't using an actual changing pad, just make sure you have something waterproof so wherever you are changing LO doesn't get messy when they decide to pee mid-change.

Don't worry and certainly don't stress. You will find that a lot of what you planned will need adjusted and you will also figure out easy, then easier, ways to do things you never thought of beforehand. The great thing about babies is that they have nothing to compare it to! Until my DD is much older, she won't be able to judge me for changing her on top of the stocked liquor cabinet!
