Thoughts on Megan?

Of course, when I was in school, there were about five Megans that I knew.  I don't know any kids these days named Megan and I've always loved it.  Trying to gauge its popularity.  Thoughts?

TIA!

  • I don't know any under the age if 30, I don't think it's popular now at all. I do think it's a bit dated, but a fine name.

My 2 year niece is Meaghan. But she is the only one that I know with the name at all. Great name.

  • The only little Megan that I know is 8.
  • It took me a minute to think about it, because my immediate reaction is to feel it's dated and too 80s... But, yah, I like it. I've decided that it's pretty, and Meg is a great nn.

  • I don't think it's "dated" but it's not popular anymore either. Plus it's pretty. So I like it! I do prefer the Meghan spelling, but that's just me :)
  • Thanks!  I grew up on the Thornbirds and loved the nn Meg or Meggie.  DH said it's too popular but I want  to use this post to show it's only popular in the 30 or so and over crowd!

  • Love this name!
  • I don't think it is popular at all these days. It is a modern classic. I would love to meet a young Megan.. all the Megans I know are 15-25.
  • I love it!

I don't know if I would use the word dated, but it's definitely not in its prime anymore, which can be a good thing! I would lump it in the same category as Amy, Lauren, Bridget, and Erin (all of which I love). Sort of like modern classics, if that is a thing.

Dated = Taylor, Haley, Madison, etc. Or maybe I'm totally off my rocker...

Do you only feel that way because of the popularity amongst your age group? That is how I feel about my name (Nicole) but I think it would be cute to hear on a baby now because there aren't any baby Nicoles. Or Megans.

  • I know one 6 year old named Meghan and I have always felt bad for her. It's very 80s to me. Just my opinion.
  • This is my name but I still hear it on little girls relatively frequently. I just saw it today on a kids bulletin board. I am obviously biased, but I like it and don't find it dated.

  • I get a bit of a dated vibe from it.

I know 5 Megans and all are my age (early 30s).

  • I like it and agree with the comparison to Lauren. Great name even it it peaked in popularity in the 80s. It isn't the same as Heather, Stephanie, Jennifer.

Me tooooo. I don't hate it like I used to but man I was sick of being Megan L growing up. My best friend is even named Meghan and we have to go by our middle names when we're around family so people can address us.

I was supposed to be a Britney though, and there were twice as many Britney's as Megan's
  • I was born in the 70's and was the only Megan in my grade for a long time.  I love my name, though I hated it when I was really young and it was more unusual.  I go by Megan or Meg or Meggy or Megs.

And...I am teacher and I usually have one Megan amongst my 150 students, although there have been years, here and there, with no Megans nowadays.

  • I like it!  I am a Megan so perhaps a bit bias ;)   I was born in 1982 so that was right before the big upswing in popularity.  I didn't know other Megan's until I was in high school and even then there weren't that many.

@NittanyMama & @MeganM0710 i was always Megan S .... Always all throughout the entire time I was in school . Ultra annoying . On top of that, I just dont like the name in general .

  • I think it's nice and not used a lot these days. One of my friends has two girls named Ashley (3) and Megan (1). My first thought was that they were dated names but I can see why she picked them. If you like it, go for it.

  • That is my name but I spell it Meghan.  I like my name but HATE being called Meg.  I just don't like it and think Meghan sounds better.  Everyone calls me by my full name (even when I was little) except my nieces who call me Aunt Meggie.

  • I'm a 23yo Megan and there were 3 others just in my graduating class. It was popular, but I don't know any young Megan's. I also hate being called Meg. Never liked the nn. Just some input :)
