Hello friends,
I was active on this board just a few months ago, but I took a short break from any board other than the LGBT board for a while. I wanted to do a quick re-intro and an update so that when I post it won't be just some random person posting. I'm happily married (albeit, not legally, yet...come on Michigan), to my amazing wife. She is a full-time firefighter and I'm an attorney. We've known each other since high school, but we reconnected over 5 years ago and (very) long story short, we are madly in love and she is my fairy tale ending.
DW is 37 and I am newly 35. I was diagnosed with PCOS many years ago, but didn't think it would affect me. We decided to start trying for a child using DS and at-home ICIs. We tried for several months with no success, so we moved on to an RE. My cycle day blood work came back perfect, and in fact, I was told I have the ovarian reserve of a 20 year old. I do, however, have trouble ovulating on my own. It's not consistent at all, but this was no surprise. I have been charting my cycles (cm, bbt, opks) for well over a year and it is pretty clear when I have anovulatory cycles. I began seeing my acupuncturist to assist with this issue and with the help of that, plus metformin, I do get a regular cycle...it's just not always regular in length and ovulation.
After our failed at-home, unmedicated attempts, we moved on to the RE and she put me on clomid. I had no response to clomid. I had only a few small follicles on the left side and none on the right. We were very disappointed. We also had some issues with the RE's office treating us poorly, so we had a long sit down with the doctor and expressed our concerns. Things have improved, but I will say, if my insurance wasn't covering everything, we wouldn't be going back.
We moved on to trying Femara and ovidrel this cycle. We just discovered that I produced one follicle and we are triggering for the first time tonight. We'll be completing our two inseminations on Monday and Tuesday. Then we wait. You all certainly know how that feels. We've made the decision that trying 3 more cycles is all we will do if this one fails. We are both at peace with that decision and know that our lives can be full and complete regardless.
I often lurk here and my heart breaks for anyone who is having trouble trying to conceive. I am sending warm wishes and hugs to each and every one of you. I hope to continue to be on this board to watch all of your successes.
