NBR Anyone been to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter?

Trying to figure out to do with a day in Orlando.  Tomorrow is free, and I'm tempted to go to Universal to see the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.  However, it's the only thing that really sparks my interest, and the ticket is almost $100.  Is it worth it to spend that much on a ticket, when I won't really be able to ride any of the rides in the park?  Or should I save it for a few years down the road when we come to FL as a family?  My H isn't particularly interested, and thinks I should splurge on myself, but I'm not sure if I'd get the most out of it at this point.

Anyone been there?  Is it worth it to get the ticket just to walk around?

  • I'm a HUGE HP fan (nerd alert), so I would go just to go. And then I'd go back again every time that I visit Orlando again. But I hear you on the prize- yikes.

If you go, let us/me know how it is. My dad and I have been talking about going since forever.

  • I've been twice, and loved it both times. I'm a huge Harry Potter nerd! I don't know how much I would enjoy going while this pregnant, as a trip to the mall tires me out at this point. If you have the energy to walk around and are a fan, I'd go for it! Lots to see even without going on the rides.

  • Hubby and I went a little over a year ago, and I loved it! I'm not a roller coaster person at all, but we did go on two rides and I would suggest waiting until you are able to ride. One of them is so neat it's like walking through hogwarts while your walking to the ride. But I enjoyed just being there since I love Harry Potter as well :-)

  • I really enjoyed it, but I don't think it would be worth it w/o the rides. The scenery is definitely really cool, but prob not cook enough for the price of a ticket. I think I'd just be sad I couldn't do everything, and I'd be tired, too.

  • DH & I went last March. I found out we were expecting (a pregnancy that didnt make it past 1st tri) the week before we left, so being paranoid I didnt go on any rides. Although DH & I are huge HP fans, we were really disappointed. DH wouldnt go on the rides without me. I am looking forward to going back in the future and being able to enjoy it in full. I would suggest waiting until you too can go on the rides.

  • I loved it. Even though you can't ride the rides, there's so much cool stuff to see. If you go you should definitely try the butter beer- it's seriously amazing. The Harry Potter portion of the park is in the very back, so it's a longgg walk and that may not be so much fun being pregnant.

Have you been to the main Universal park? They have a lot of 'rides' that you can go on pregnant (in one they simulate a tornado in front of you) so there's probably more to do at that park (Harry Potter is in a separate park called Islands of Adventure).
  • We went just over a year ago and loved it! But I don't think id go without being able to ride the rides and most of Islands of Adventure rides are not preggo friendly so $100 is a lot to shell out. I'd save it and go with family later plus the new part of Harry Potter is due to to pen this summer! You will be able to ride the Hogwartsvexpress from IoA to Universal and visit Diagonal Ally and ride the Gringots runaway cart roller coaster.
  • We went in December. We knew going in we were essentially buying tickets to just walk around because my son was too short and I was pregnant but it was fun to see. We did the tour of hogwarts but wish I could have ridden things. If I had it to do over I would have waited until I wasn't pregnant.
  • I'm a HUGE HP fan
We even went to the HP studio tours in London as part of our honeymoon
We loved the wizarding world in Orlando but the part that stands out most to me is the 4D ride and since you can't go on that it's worth waiting in my opinion
    But it is awesome
And I can't wait to read HP to lil one and then take him there one day ... Although hopefully we get to go back again before he knows about Youknowwho
  • I agree with everyone who says to wait. I went over the summer and it was great, but not worth $100 if you can't ride the rides. The ticket gets you into the whole park and there are a lot of rides aside from just the Harry Potter part so you'd be much better off going when you can fully enjoy it.

Thanks all. I think I'll hold off until I can do more. I'm looking forward to it, but it seems like a lot of money for what I'd get out of it today.

  • I go to Orlando for Disney/Universal once sometimes twice a year. I personally would not go being as far along as we are. There is plenty to look at, but you can't ride anything which means you wouldn't see the inside of the castle because it's the line leading up to the ride. You can basically shop and eat there. That's it. As much as I love HP, to me it would not be worth the money.
  • DH has annual passes to Universal. He really loves going there. I'm not a big fan because I get motion sickness and many of the rides are simulators or thrill rides. I was kinda bored there. I also hate HP *gasp* but I will admit the butter beer is pretty darn tasty. They are doing a HP expansion also so maybe wait until they open that?

  • Yes! And the ride is awesome!! So fun

    It's a BOY

  • I went 2 yrs with MH and it was awesome. But you def need to experience the rides so I would wait.
  • I wouldn't until you can ride the rides. I currently spend most of my time at downtown Disney, pointe Orlando, Wekiva Springs, or the outlets.

  • Oh yeah.. Duh! Wait until the expansion opens! You'll get way more bang for your buck!!
