Hand, foot, mouth?

My son got a fever yesterday morning, won't eat much and is irritable. Didnt sleep well at all last night, Then today fever is very mild, will only eat soft foods, bad breath, still has energy but irritable and won't nap easily. Tonight will brushing teeth I noticed he has red spots in mouth on the tongue and roof of mouth a few had white tiny spot in the middle. I did some basic google research and it seems to point to hand foot mouth. Just wanted to see what y'all think. We will take him to get diagnosed in the morning.

  • Sounds like the dreaded virus. Poor little man. What did the doc say?

  • sounds like it! my son had a 101.5 fever and threw up. Then he was whimpering and pointing to his tongue but I didn't see anything and then noticed blisters on his butt (very small patch) and then they cropped up around his mouth and the inside of his mouth. He was still pretty happy and playful so it wasn't as awful as I expected it to be. BUT about 7 weeks later I noticed his big toe looked bruised and the nail was coming off and then all his finger nails started peeling off, I started to panic then I read that it was an after effect of HFM so be on the look out for that. Doesn't happen to most kids but it can.

  • Ohhhh HFM SUCKS! DD had it around 1 and spiked crazy high fevers, wouldn't eat or drink to the point I was squirting gatorade in her mouth with a syringe. DS got a milder case. he didn't get the fever but was just whiny and had the blisters on his hands and feet.
Just another note, strep and sinus infections can also cause really bad breath, as well as open mouth breathing at night.
