Trying to Get Pregnant

Ovulation pain ??

So this may or may not be thread worthy but I'll give it a go anyways..

I'm just laying in my bed and I randomly felt this twinge/pain/tingle in the area where my left ovary is. (I took a&p so it's a pretty good guess as to where my ovary is)

I've never felt this before and honestly thought people were delusional when they have said they felt pain when they ovulate.

What are some of ur experiences with this "ovulation pain" ??

Btw.. I am totally not saying that's what this was.. Especially because a) it only lasted about 15 seconds and b) I am pretty sure I don't ovulate. (History of pcos and last cycle was 91 days that ended with help of provera.)

Thanks in advance ladies!

  • I get it every month too. Sometimes even before I ovulate. For some reason I usually feel my left one more than the right.

  • I've only had O pains the last two cycle (which were medicated).  I ususally feel it in the days leading up to O, specifically when I'm sitting.  Typically it peaks the day before O.  It's just a weird sore feeling for me where'd you imagine your ovaries to be.

This for me. I usually get a pain almost like a tiny bubble popping along with some general cramping on that side. Cysts? Ovulation? Idk. But I do know that it must be ovulation related because I was charting and knew I was ovulating then. Also with my pregnancy that recently ended in mc, I told them I ovulated from my left side and it was confirmed by ultrasound that the corpus luteum cyst was there.

  • Sometimes I just generally feel cramps for a couple days around O, sometimes I feel nothing, sometimes I feel a "stitch" in my side (like from running but lower) for a couple hours.

  • I get VERY clear ovulation pains. They are definitely not in my head.  They usually happen off and on for maybe 1/2 a day, though sometimes longer.. and usually switching sides each month.  I get stabs, I actually have to medicate sometimes for them. Every so often I get dull aches and back pain, but usually it's a stabbing feeling. It's actually kinda awful, and hurts more than my PMS and cramps.  I even went to the dr once when I explained it, and they checked for cysts.. but I had nothing.  I just have clear as hell ovulation pains.

  • I always feel ovulation cramps. My left ovary hurts more than my right. When I had my HSG my left ovary was exactly where I feel my pains and my right ovary is way up in there. Since I'm doing monitored injections it's kinda cool to see which ovaries are producing more follicles and bigger ones based on the pain I'm having. I've also found out the pain starts way before ovulation and ends a few days after ovulation so the pain I feel isn't the egg being released.

I feel twinges of pain when I ovulate that sound very similar to what you described although it can come & go randomly for a day more often then just one twinge. I recall having the same pain in high school and i thought my appendix was going to burst, wasn't super painful but I was like 14 so I didn't know any better. I remember looking up on my computers encyclopedia and it came up with ovulation pain.
My friend said she never felt ovulating until she had a baby, now after 3 she feels it every month.

  • Like many of the rest, I get more crampy and feel some sharp twinges in the general area of my ovary (usually more left than right), but not just 1 sharp pinch.  I figure it's everything settling back down after the follicle bursts (and the cramps are probably from the hormones rolling around then).

  • I definitely feel when I ovulate. For me, it feels like sharp, double you over kind of pain. I am pretty much useless for about 4 hours, then it's over. I went to my doctor because I thought I had a cyst or something bad was happening in there. He did an US a few hours after the pain had started and he could see the blood and fluid outside my ovary (with the color tracing US). He said I had probably just ovulated within a few hours. I was relieved that I didn't have a cyst and for the blessing/curse of having painful ovulation. Now that I'm on medicated cycles, it's even worse.
Everyone is different though and that's just my experience!

  • Glad to know you thought I was delusional for having pains that make me double over right around ovulation.

Thanks for the snark but I didn't mean it in an offensive way - sorry if I offended you. It was just one of those I don't believe it till I see it (or feel it) kind of things.

  • Yes, I definitely have it too. The cycle I got pregnant with my daughter I had it so bad I had to go to the hospital thinking it was a cyst that had burst. Most of the time it is milder (thankfully!) but still noticeable. My cm dries up within a couple of days of the pain. I don't have PCOS .

Yeah, definitely feel it pretty much every month! Some are worse than others but I like knowing that something is going on, lol. I get cramps or sharp little shoots of pain every once in a while but it goes away. I can feel it mostly on my left but do occasionally on my right too. Sex during ovulation can be a bit painful for me sometimes but nothing too bad. Just make sure that the pain isn't horrible or something you think you might want a doctor to check out so that you don't panic, but its normal. Good luck!

Trying to have baby #1 since April 2013

DH SA March,May 2014 - Low motility and shape issues. On vitamins per RE to help

Me testing April 3, 2014 - FSH and LH good, HSG showed blocked right tube

April 29, 2014 - First RE appt., right tube needs to be removed and possibly left also if

it's bad too. RE suggests going straight to IVF

June 4, 2014 - LAP/HSC and unexpected endo. removed but tubes got to stay!

June 13, 2014 - Post-Op appointment. We decide where to go next since main issue

is MFI influenced. Trying naturally until decision... Repeat SA  in September. Aiming for IUI #1 November 2014.

I dont mean to hijack the thread, but since we are talking about O pain here...

I am at 9dpo and I keep getting those random pains in my right side very similar to O pains, but I have never had them last this long. I have confirmed O on CD15 with temping and OPK's. Any ideas?
No advice but just wanted to say high jack away!

  • I get O pain EVERY.SINGLE.MONTH and it alternates sides, though I tend to feel it more intensely on the left. It starts out like a dull ache in my left side wrapping around to my back that increases in intensity to more of a sharp, twinge-like sensation fairly quickly (within a few hours) and is gone within a day (mine tend to happen in the evening??). It almost feels like constipation cramps but they always happen mid-cyle and are gone in less than 12 hours. HTH.
