2nd X moms...how are you feeling?

Are you having an easier pregnancy this time?  The same?  more difficult?  If you know, is the baby the same sex?

I didn't know how miserable I was last time... I thought it was all normal pregnancy stuff back ache, rib pain, swelling, etc (and it was... until the end...)

But this time I hardly know I am pregnant.  I don't have the same aches and pains at all.  (knocking wood)...FWIW it was a girl last time and a boy this time.

I also carried low last time, and this time I am carrying much higher... so I wonder if that is accounting for it?

My pregnancy is much easier this time although I still feel pregnant. But I had pre-e last time so it was not really a normal, healthy pregnancy. Same sex.

Mine ended with pre-e... But it didn't happen until late in my pregnancy.  I'm kinda wondering if maybe because I'm feeling so much better does that possibly mean that I'm not headed that way this time...

When I was pregnant with my son I felt great up until the last 2 weeks or so.

This time around I've been a hot mess the whole time.  I think I might have SPD. I can't stand up or walk around without feeling like my pelvis is going to shatter. It brings me to tears.  Or could be because this baby sits a lot lower than he did but I don't think so. I think this is going way beyond the normal aches of third trimester.

Girl this time, so they keep telling me!
I felt like that with DD... My knees would buckle in under me from the pain.  She was very low.

Did you have problems laying down too? Sometimes even that doesn't help.  When I stand up, you can hear my hips crack across the room.

I had some sciatica here and there with my son and thought that was bad.  Idiot.
I had a lot of trouble sleeping because of it.  I couldn't get in a good position at all.  The hip cracking thing happened a lot too.  That happened twice this pregnancy, but it was closer to 20 weeks.  I thought I was in for it this time, but it stopped (knocking wood!)

  • I have a similar pain i thought might be spd and the np at my OB'S office said that pubic pain is more common in 2+ pregnancies because things never quite go back together the same and muscles and ligaments weaker/stretched out. Especially where the pregnancies are close together.

I am hoping for the same thing! I don't know if it means anything or not. My bp was already high by this time in my last pregnancy though.

  • Don't know sex, but this pregnancy has been harder and more discomfort starting recently. I had HG, but didn't even have nausea with DD, I have heartburn this time and I've been more emotional. I attribute this to having a toddler (preschooler?) to lug around and who insists on being carried constantly, but my lower abs and back are so achy and uncomfortable by the end of the day. Never had this issue with DD.

  • This child is using my bladder as a pillow/punching bag which DS never did.  I do not like the feeling.

I feel better in one aspect, I am actually allowed to exercise this pregnancy and that makes me feel better overall thank goodness.

  • I'm feeling a lot better this time. When I was pregnant with DS, I was swollen for five months with hypertension and carpel tunnel. I also developed GD and pre-e at the very end. I was miserable but it was all worth it when I held my little guy for the first time. This time I'm expecting a girl. The heartburn and general discomfort are about the same. Thanks for sharing this question. It is so interesting to see how each pregnancy is different. I wasn't sure what to expect with this pregnancy. I was hoping for some improvement but I didn't know if was possible. Good luck to everyone on getting through the next couple months.
  • I am having another boy but this pregnancy is more difficult than my first. I know a lot of it has to do with chasing a toddler around all day, but I am much more tired this time. I also have had way worse heartburn this time. I actually got my midwife to agree to let me take my normal prescription for acid reflux it was so bad. They are really against meds unless its necessary. I'm a lot more achy this time around too. And lets not even talk about the crabbiness...

  • Third pregnancy. Girl, boy, girl. All so different, it's unbelievable. All pretty miserable, too. Bed rest with all three. This time has been the worst by far. My pregnancies have gotten worse every time, but my second delivery was much smoother than first. Hopefully that means third delivery will be easier, as well. Not looking too promising, though!

  • I have a girl and this one's a boy. I had bad m/s with both and am now just nauseous all the time like I was with the first.

The biggest differences for me have been mentioned: pubic pain and a punching bag for a bladder. Ugh! Oh, and I feel like a raging emotional monster almost constantly. If I don't punch someone in the face before I have this kid it will be a miracle.

  • Feeling all of my almost 30 weeks. Both pgs were similar in the beginning save for this one being an anterior placenta.

They are heading in different directions now though.

Last third tri: Carpal tunnel and ulnar nerve compression from weeks 26-36, SPD, and then Pre-E. Baby was à boy.

This third tri: SPD is just starting to rear its ugly head and I have GD. So far my bp is awesome (knock wood pre e stays away). They say this one is a girl.

  • Each pregnancy has been completely different despite expecting a boy for each. Last pregnancy, I was miserable, mean, cranky, headaches, swelling, backaches, etc.

This time around, I am much more calm, less irrational/moody, less swelling, no headaches and hopefully no backaches. I remember having heartburn with DS1 but I have yet to get it this time. I also had heart palpitations with DS1; none with this one. More first trimester nausea with this one than my first.

Super tired in the beginning with my first, more tired during my 2nd and now onto my 3rd trimester for my second.

  • This one is different than my first .. They have both been fairly easy however I'm more sore and achey  this time around .. The first one was a girland this is a boy ... I say my differences have more to do with the fact that I didn't really work last time just watched my friends kids overnight while she worked and helped around her house and I was 21 ... This time I'm 43 and working full time overnight in what in the last few months has become more physical...

  • Don't know what baby is so can't compare that. But I've had some things better, some worse. I was way sicker this time. But I've has less back pain. More pelvic pain this time. This babies moves more but less forcefully (at least so far). I also has carpal tunnel set in with dd, but I don't think that started for a few weeks yet, so who knows if it will this time.

  • Second pregnancy, both girls.

My 1st tri was harder with DD1, but this time around I am just so exhausted. I know it's probably from chasing after my toddler all the time, but I am SO ready to be done, and I still have 11 weeks to go! I didn't hit that point until much later in my pregnancy last time!

  • Second pregnancy, both boys. Pretty much feeling the same this time. Though I am more sore this time, my pelvis feels bruised from the spreading, which I didn't get last time.
  • Up until 22 weeks, this pregnancy was so much easier in every way. Now my SPD is kicking in much sooner than it did before and it just hurts so much. But I am managing my weight better this time, at least for now, until I won't be able to walk anymore without being in pain which seems to be looming. Both pregnancies are boys.

  • Last pregnancy boy this one is a girl. And literally everything is the same except baby girl is really low adding pelvic pressure where DS was really high. I was just diagnosed with pre-e with this LO and at the same apt with DS was diagnosed with it. So heading down the same path. It sucks but at least I can say I know what to expect!!
  • This one is much easier but it's hard to say if it actually is easier or if it's because I'm unemployed now staying home with DD vs working 80+ hours/week when I was pregnant with DD. Don't know the sex.

  • My pregnancy with my son was fairly easy, but I had some pretty bad back pain at the end.  Don't know what this one is, but I had much worse nausea with this pregnancy.  My son was head down from at least 23 weeks and this one is breech, so the feeling of being kicked in the bladder is new and not entirely pleasant.  Don't feel much more tired this time, but with my son I was teaching 26 1st/2nd graders all day and now I'm only watching my son, so it is much easier this time.

Right now I'm dealing with a horribly painful pulled muscle in my stomach from all the coughing that I've been doing.  Not really related to the pregnancy, but it is making my life miserable.

  • I was thinking about this today. I actually feel really good. I had a few bad weeks a few weeks back but I haven't had any braxton hicks contractions in a few weeks, not much back pain, and I have a fair amount of energy. I'm hoping I won't be paying for this later.

With my DD by this time I was on my second round of kidney stones and  could barely walk because she loved to sit so low. This little guy must be pretty high because the only issue I've been having is short of breath and lack of sleep.

  • My first was a dream. This one is hell. The end.
  • Each pregnancy has been different, but this one has been the hardest both physically and emotionally.  The emotional part is mostly PGAL-related, I think.  I'm definitely much more terrified this time; I felt pretty invincible with my first 2 pregnancies.

Physically this one is harder because we're treating it as high risk.  I went into PTL even earlier than I did with my daughter.  I have a litany of pills to take every day to help baby stay inside as long as possible, and do weekly P17 injections.  I'm more exhausted, but the emotional toll might play into that (as well as the now-mobile toddler and job with more responsibility).

With my previous 2 pregnancies I was on top of the world.  My issues were minor, and I thought that I could have as many kids as I wanted because I loved being pregnant so much.  This time I still feel that deep love and connection to my baby, but I think I'm tired, and want a break after this.  There's also the possibility I'll end up with a hysterectomy this time around if we have complications, so it might be forcibly my last natural baby.  I'm trying to prepare myself for that possibility too.

  • This pregnancy had been much easier this time around. I'm feeling much better as well. Probably for the fact I was more in shape with this lo then my first son. Carrying the same, but smaller O.o. Having another boy :). The only issues I ran into with my first was needing a muscle relaxer at this point, but so far no need. This time I have a varicose vein that popped up, it's stoppe me from running and the constant need to elevate to prevent a clot from forming. It's been feeling a little better now that I know to take frequent elevation breaks while working out and during the day.

First pregnancy and it was a dream.  Up until 20 weeks, I had almost no weight gain and then BAMBAMBAM, I was up 51 lbs in the last 17 weeks (induced due to pre-e) and those last 6 weeks were misery and bloat.  Filled with insomnia.  Had an adorable girl.

This pregnancy, I had migraines, nausea, the WORST ass morning sickness, and an overall feeling like I needed to sleep like Cinderella for 9 months until 20 weeks.  Since then he kicks like a mule, I have pelvic and hip pain, and am constantly out of breath.  Then there is the fun dizziness/need to pass out feeling that I have had at places like Target.  It's been good times and I still have 11 weeks left.  This one is a boy.

  • First pregnancy was a boy. I had ms until 12 weeks, then pretty good until heartburn and general discomfort around 30 weeks. Second pregnancy, another boy, was my easiest. I had energ and felt pretty good. Third pregnancy, girl, hardest one. Sick until 20 weeks, still tired and varicose veins and lots of Braxton hicks contractions. I keep joking she is trying to ensure that she will be the last baby and she is right!
  • My first pregnancy was very easy. Didn't have much discomfort or MS, and just had minor swelling the last month or so. This time has been much worse. Terrible MS the entire first tri, very achy, tired, and extremely emotional. I know it could be a lot worse so I try not to complain too much.
  • I'm feeling about the same. Pregnant with my second child, another girl. My first pregnancy I had horrible MS the first tri and continued to have it occasionally throughout the entire pregnancy, which is exactly what's going on with this pregnancy. I started showing a lot sooner this pregnancy and gained a little bit more weight with this pregnancy. I'm curious how much LO will weigh. DD weighed 7lbs 3.5oz.. I was able to bounce back to my pre-pregnancy weight within a month (of course I was 19 yrs old at the time and now I'm 33) so we shall see how things go after I give birth to this baby.

  • My pregnancy with my 29mo old son felt never-ending. I had 3 losses prior to him so I was on edge the entire time. This time around I completely mellowed out after the 1st trimester.

I had really bad nausea for the first 14 weeks. Barely had any with my son.

I have been so incredibly busy w my son that I sometimes forget I'm pregnant. This time around has flown by. I sometimes feel guilty that I'm not as focused on this pregnancy. Maybe that's common the 2nd time. We picked a name this weekend and I'm feeling much more connected to him.

I've also managed to keep my weight in relative check. I gained 65lbs with my son. After a lifetime of dieting, I felt such freedom in eating without guilt.

I was still 25lbs overweight when I got pregnant this time. I have been trying to exercise at least 2-3 times a week this time...whereas the first time, I didn't get off the couch for fear of losing the baby.

I am feeling WAY more Braxton hicks this time. I almost having a lot of off and on pelvic pain.

All in all, this time around has been MUCH easier. Physically and mentally. Of course, I still have a ways to go but knock on wood, things are good. So good that DH and I are not saying this will be our last baby. I'm getting up there at 36. He's 45. Who knows...maybe we'll try for a 3rd:)

  • Last pregnancy was a breeze!  I was in no pain, no discomfort and slept relatively well.  Literally the happiest pregnant lady you'd ever seen!  I had a boy.

This pregnancy, although I wouldn't go as far as to say I'm miserable, I'm definitely more tired, in more pain, the baby sits much lower, the heartburn is awful, etc.  I can't wait for May!  This one is a girl...

  • I'd say much harder this time.  Braxton hicks started much earlier.  I started having menstrual like cramps last week (27 weeks) where as they didn't start until 30 weeks with DS1.  I find my legs and feet are swelling already and I never had swelling with DS1.  Sleep is horrible.  My pelvis hurts so bad.  Just a lot more aches and pains this time around.  Most likely because I'm running after a 2 year old all the time!

  • All in all, my pregnancies have been about the same (both girls).  I'm more tired and feeling more pregnant at this point than I was with DD1, but that comes with the territory of a second pregnancy I think!
