Anyone else?

Has any one else's babies not done certain things yet? Such as attempting to rollover or reaching for things or trying to play with toys? Joey hasn't really done any of those things yet. He just started to reach for things above him on his play mat a couple days ago. He does recognize me and DH but he doesn't really reach for us or really have a preference for anything yet. I'm probably overreacting but I get updates each week (in emails) as to what they're supposed to be doing (milestones) and I worry myself. I probably don't need to worry but just wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation?

Re: Anyone else?

  • Joey literally wants nothing to do with toys. I will put them in his hand and he doesn't even grab on to it. But give him a finger and he has a death grip on it and he loves sucking on his hands!

  • Brayden is 5 1/2 months (4 1/2 adjusted) & has rolled tummy to back a handful of times but will not roll back to tummy. He would much rather be on his back where he can see everything I think.
  • Cora has showed NO interest in rolling. If your really worried talk to your pedi to ease your mind... But babies are all so different!

  • Ellie has just started reaching for her feet. She has no interest inrolling. She is just now starting to not scream during tummy time. The only toys she really reaches for are the ones on the kick n play. It'll come in time.

MH hates being on a schedule. I am assuming Ellie will be just the same.

  • DD is going to be 5 months in a few days.  I saw a huge change in the last month.  She wasn't doing most of those things at 4 months.  Now she is constantly playing with toys and reaching for things.  She has gone from belly to back, but not back to belly, though she tries about 100 times a day.  Children also develop at a different pace, so don't pay too much attention to the e-mails. They don't really mean that much.

  • All babies do things at their own pace and a lot of times will come completely out of the blue. DS just rolled over (back to front) for the first time on Wednesday after not even attempting it before. He was on his playmat and I walked back in to find him on his stomach when he had never even tried to roll before. Just keep playing with him and he will get there. I have been doing tummy time with him in the morning and rolling him back and forth myself for him to see what it feels like for a while now.

  • Your LO isn't even 4 months yet, every babe has their own timeline. I wouldn't worry but definitely talk to your pedi if you're concerned.

  • Thanks for all the responses. I feel better just reading the comments. He will be 4 mos on the 26th. I will just keep interacting with him and showing him things. He does have his 4 mo check up on the 28th so I can also talk to the pedi if I'm still concerned. Thanks guise! :)

  • I help roll DS and he laughs. He hasn't rolled on his own yet but I'm not worried. They all do it on their own timeline. Rolling is hardly a milestone that they will use much in the future. My 2.5 yo rolled at 4.5 months. She also hardly crawled either. She is a typical 2 yo who walks, runs, jumps, flips, etc.

  • Every baby is different.

LO does all of the things that he is "supposed" (and I say that lightly) to be doing at his age except that he doesn't roll from back to front.  He rolls all the way over onto his side, laughs, and then goes back to his back.  I think he has the ability and not the desire.  He would much rather lay on his back and play with the toys above him or with his feet.

  • My DD buries her face and screams during tummy time. She would be much happier if she would learn to roll.

Jace just started reaching for us this week. He still detests tummy time, but has rolled a few times back to front and front to back. Toys, he has been swatting at since he was 2 weeks (video to prove it!). It really can be an overnight thing. I know it is hard, but try and relax and give it more time.

  • This list seems to be a little less aggressive than some of those others. DD is ahead on some things and behind on others. Whenever I worry she usually does something new so I stop. I think as long as they are adding on new things the timing doesn't matter as much. https://blog.thebump.com/2013/11/14/everything-you-need-to-know-about-babys-first-year-infographic/

Franco Paul born 6/4/15 at 39 weeks.  Mila Francesca born 10/19/13 at 37 weeks.  Both born via C-Section after 6 years of fertility treatments, disappointments and losses. Love them!!

  • My DD is almost exactly a month older then yours LO and she started doing Ll those things in just the last month.

Check with pedi if it is bothering you and unsubscribe to the emails if they aren't helpful.
