Along the lines

Along the lines of would you call the dr, the BEST investment I ever made as a mom was a kit by safety first to look in kids ears and mouths it has a book that shows pics of healthy and sick throats and ears. I know we aren't doctors and it's not a replacement for seeing one BUT it helps you know if things look normal or not when kids are felling off. And with practice it's easy to spot an ear infection. After 3 kids and 9 years it's helped a ton! And most the time now I can spit an ear infection or strep with no problem. Anyway just thought I'd share

Re: Along the lines

  • I totally have my own "dr. Mom" ottoscope as well as my own stethoscope.  I figure if anything at least I can show lo these things to hopefully reduce his fear before appointments.  He HATES the ottoscope and the stethoscope.  I've tried looking in his ears for a "normal" baseline but I can't really figure out what I'm supposed to see (even though there's a chart).  I am hoping if there's a problem it's totally obvious since your doctor looks in your ear for a fraction of a second! :)

  • The key is to gently pull back on their ear it straightens the canal and makes the view of the drum better! Also try doing it while lo is watching tv or something it's easier.

  • Thanks, I've tried this on dh to practice, next I should try on lo so he doesn't scream through his entire appointment.
