I am kind of loving this name lately. I think it's super fun to say and love the cute nn options. Would it be weird to use if we are in no way Jewish?

ETA.  Ok sorry, I pressed enter and didn't get to add other poll options. I'm not quite sure how to fix it.  You can just comment below if you hate it, etc.

It's a nice name, if you are Jewish.

I would expect the person to be Jewish.  I'd be mildly surprised to find that they aren't.
This. My husband has a similar experience with his name; Zadok.

  • I've actually never heard the name. But I don't like it. And now that I do know it is traditionally Jewish, I wouldn't find it appropriate if you aren't.

  • Sorry, but I can't stand this name. It sounds like a butcher job on Susanna. I know, I know. It's a real name. But I just get that feeling when I hear it.

  • I love love love this name.  (I came across it a few years ago from the movie Inglorious Basterds.  It went by in the credits at the end of the movie, lol, and stuck out to me.  And I haven't forgotten about it since.)

If I came across this name, I guess I'd think that it was likely she was Jewish, but it wouldn't be a given, and I wouldn't give side-eye if she wasn't.

I feel like it might be hard for some people to say.  It sounds soo pretty, but is also kind of a mouthful.  You have to kind of think before you say it.

  • I don't care for the name. Sounds Amish to me. I would maybe pick something else...
  • I love this name. I wouldn't instantly assume the person was Jewish.

  • I would assume a Shoshannah was Jewish, but it's not at all a problem if she's not.  This isn't a Cohen-type situation, just a very mild surprise.
This.  I do find it difficult to say, though (my tongue must come from my non-Jewish genes...).  We have a friend whose GF is named Shoshannah, and I keep worrying I'm going to say her name wrong.

  • I love it...and I am Jewish...but I can really only hear that horrible nazi in Inglorious Bastards shouting "sho-Shona" as she ran for her life. She was an awesome character though!

  • It is a beautiful name. I am Jewish and have never met/heard of a non-Jewish Shoshannah. I would find it unusual.
  • I honestly has no idea it was a Jewish name.  Growing up, I knew one person by this name that had absolutely no Jewish heritage, and I always thought it was quite pretty.  It fit her very well.

  • I knew a Shoshanna and she had some relatives that were practicing Jewish but she was not herself. I never thought much about it before she brought it up but I am used to unusual names so NBD to me. Now that I know I would be mildly surprised if someone used it and had no Jewish ties but I don't think that it is a deal breaker.

I seriously can't think of anything else. That said, while the name is lovely, I can't imagine using it if you aren't even a smidge Jewish
  • This name will always make me think of Jerry Seinfeld's girlfriend. She was gorgeous! It is a beautiful name.

I would be surprised to learn she wasn't Jewish.

  • I knew a girl with this name in high school and she was Jewish.  I feel like it's really a Jewish name.
  • I have no idea how to say this name - seems like a tongue twister.

  • Too many letters.  Or maybe I am just too tired.  Either way I think it is a mouthful and I wouldn't do it - Jewish or not.
