Re: **Friday AW/SS/Random Thoughts Thread**

  • I am starting off my weekend by going to the doctor's this afternoon because I have a swollen lymph node and congestion going on. Lovely. Then tomorrow morning we have dental appointments for cleaning. That ends the boring stuff! Saturday afternoon I'm going to be cooking/freezing meals for the week and Saturday night we're going to my grandparent's to visit. Sunday I get to relax all day and then go to my mom's for dinner in the afternoon. It'll be nice to not have to cook Sunday!

Gah, I was avoiding Facebook so I wouldn't see scores. Is it a game worth watching though (like the women's)?

  • I get to work every night. Then Sunday my SO and I are going to look at a new place hopefully we like it so I can stop stressing because we have to move at the end of this month. Oh and also on Sunday my SO and I are going on a distillery tour I'm pretty sure it's one of those self valentines because I haven't received a present for my birthday or valentines.

phew, I was getting worried when you didn't post this earlier today.  i was starting to get worried about you.
I am so full of fail lately. I'm sitting here thinking "It's Friday, did I have something to post today....oooh yes I did! Crap!"

Pregnancy brain is strong in this one though. The past few days I've been pulling into work and getting out my home garage clicker. I start clicking the open button while pulling into my open air/no garage in sight work spot. WTF brain?!

Thanks for thinking of me <3

  • Oh dear.  I am farting so badly in my office right now... I just pray that the smell doesn't escape to the hallway.  Most of the time they don't smell, but I think they're pretty damn bad right now. :\

Gosh, I really can't imagine you farting. You seem so dainty!

Hate them. I don't think they look good on anybody's feet. Ever.

  • Any moms out there who breastfed can you tell me what kind of cloths are must haves? Do I really need the shirts or can I get by with just tank tops? Or is it just a waste of money period? I didn't expect to breastfed as long as I did last time around so I did nothing to make it convienent and I'd like to make it easier on myself this time around.

    @ugabamafans
My SIL has a Ford Edge Sport and LOVE it. She got it before moving from Ft. Lauderdale to Denver and didn't have any complaints. Guess it really just depends on each vehicle. She did buy a brand new one too, so that may be the difference.

Good friends have a Kia Sorrento. She waited a couple of years, found a decent used one and hasn't loved it after the first month. Now she can't wait to get rid of it. Lots of road noise when in the highway /interstate and not as comfortable as she thought it would be.

I myself have been eyeing the Acadia as our big family vehicle upgrade. Love, love my Subaru Impreza but we also need something with more cargo space for trips. I'm not crazy about the gas mileage the Acadia gets compared to the some other vehicles.

    Good luck

Edit- my phone keyboard just sucks!

  • @Mztwilson, I lived in tank tops or anything with a v-neck while I was still nursing my daughter every few hours. I know some people like the really thin, super stretchy tank tops that go underneath a shirt so they would be fully covered, but that was too much for me. A tank top was super easy and I bought a ton of the $5 ones at target.
  • @ugabamafans My mom has the Acadia and her neighbor has the Saturn outlook, they both love them. They are quiet smooth rides and have plenty of room. My family still takes a lot of long road trips and I know the kids are comfortable in the back and they have enough room still for all of their luggage. Every time I've ever driven my mom's I found it to be a nice ride.
  • mrsdbc - love them, but I'm 1/3 NYC urban girl, 1/3 hippie, and 1/3 wasp, so they fit my personality perfectly. I've always found them super comfortable and they're easy to slip on/off Spring - Fall. We don't really do flipflops in NYC (or I don't), so they're a good alternative.

  • Our insurance adjuster called and said that the body shop found "existing damage" to my Pathfinder in addition to the front end end damage from DH.  We are waiting to hear the definitive word, but he indicated that there was a good chance that it would be totaled.  (F U Car Fax)

Anyone have any of the following vehicles and have any love it/hate it information to share:
    Ford Edge
    Kia Sorrento
    Chevy Traverse
    GMC Acadia

    Other vehicle suggestions?

Guess what I wasn't planning on doing this week?  Go freaking car shopping.
I've had both the Chevy Traverse and GMC Acadia.  I've also drove the Ford Edge (I travel a lot for work).  If I was going to choose one or the three, I'd get the GMC Acadia in a heartbeat.  I think it drives like a car, but is fairly affordable and really roomy.  Ford is too pricey and the Acadia is the same size.  The Acadia rides much nicer than both the Edge and the Traverse in my opinion.  The Acadia is priced in between the Traverse and the Edge.  I've never driven a Kia but that's because I live in Michigan.  It would be a sin to own a car other than one made from the big three (GM, Ford, or Chrysler).

  • @mrsdbc, I personally don't think they're overrated.  But I don't normally spend more than $30 on a pair of shoes.  Mine are my favorite shoes I own. You could always go try them on and see what you think!
Plus they're on sale on Zulilly right now (sale ends today) if you don't want to spend full price on a pair.

I lived in the tank tops from Target with the straps you unbuckle.  Wore them under every shirt for the whole time I breastfed.  I need a few more this time around...

@ugabamafans - I have a Dodge Journey and I love it. It's technically a crossover - it drives more like a car than an SUV but sits higher up. Tons of room and one of my fav features is that the back doors open up to a full 90 degrees so getting things in and out of the back is super easy. That is partially the reason I got it - so it would be easier to get kids in and out. We also love it for camping :)

  • Twice today I went pee in the only stall in the bathroom without tp.  Ugh.  The second time, I remembered after some started to come out...then I was pretty sure there was no way I wouldn't dribble if I tried to scoot to another stall.  I drip-dried.  Gross.
  • My random: I keep seeing commercials for the new chocolate covered strawberry frappe from McDonalds and I want one. NOW. It literally makes me drool.

I love my TOMS!  I say they are worth the price.  They are easy to wear and comfortable to walk in.  I have an average arch so I can't speak to that.  I love the tiny toms even more.  My boys can put them on by themselves and they are cute!

  • Trying to fly to Fort Lauderdale today, our flight from Milwaukee got delayed and DH and I (along with about 15 other people) missed our connecting flight to Fort Lauderdale by about 10 minutes. You would think that for that many passengers they could have held the plane for 10 minutes. So I got to spend an extra 8 hours in the Detroit airport. Thanks Delta, you're awesome.

  • I was paging through a pregnancy magazine at the OB office today and saw an ad for a LBD (labor black dress).  I've heard of people bringing their own hospital gown, but I didn't realize it was getting so mainstream.  Would any of you buy your own hospital gown?  I just wore the standard one with my previous deliveries and they are not flattering in the post delivery photos.  I might look into it, but I wonder what the hospital staff think when you come in with your own gown.

  • @muffinhny I drive a CX-7 and I love it. They did stop making it in 2012 and only have the CX-5 and CX-9. Just FYI!

I'm so glad you said that. H and I have a Mazda 3, but we want to get a bigger one when the baby comes. I could have sworn there was a CX-7 and I could not figure out why I couldn't find a new one!

ETA: I guess I should have just googled it. Now I just feel dumb.

We have a Chevy Traverse and I really like it. I have nothing bad to say about it with two kiddos in the middle. I don't know if this will change when #3 gets here, but right now there is plenty of room and the back hatch is really big with the third row of seats down. I can fit a ton of stuff back there.
  • I have been sick since Monday. The problem is, I don't know what is wrong (its not like, sore throat and runny nose, just sick feeling). It is making me miserable and moody. I cry at random things, and added stress makes me snap for no good reason. All I want to do is lay on my couch and watch netflix, but life keeps getting in the way. Stupid life to live.

The only reason I liked this is because if there is an airport to be stuck in for 8 hours, it's Detroit's airport.  I agree that Delta is shitty for not holding the plane for 15 people.  I'm actually surprised they didn't.  Unless they had it overbooked, which wouldn't surprise me.  By the way, I live in Michigan.  Sorry your visit to our state was so crappy!!!

@ugabamafans we have a GMC Acadia, and I have mixed feelings about it. On a day-to-day basis, it is a great car. Super smooth ride, quiet, comfortable and more than enough room. We can carry all of our luggage, skis, coolers and a dog with room to spare. However, it is only a 2012, and we already had the power steering go out, which was replaced under warranty but we happened to be going over a really curvy, steep mountain pass at the time...I was NOT impressed. The heater fan has also burnt out and makes an obnoxious high pitched noise when you turn the heat on. And, the leather seats have a ton of cracks in them already. H got some sort of warranty/protection package that was supposed to repair any interior damage and paid an extra $1,000 or so for it, but when we took it back to GMC they said that the fancy extra package didn't cover the leather so we are stuck with the cracks.

Overall, I do really like the car but we have had some serious issues with cheap parts/poor manufacturing for it being two years old.

@buzzellsl A friend had one that she wore but only b/c her mom got it for her.  She thought it was ridiculous and made fun of it with the nurses and her doc.  I am hoping for immediate skin to skin so I doubt I will be wearing anything at first.  But I plan to have a semi attractive and comfy top or robe to put on later (and for pics).  My hospital told us we can wear whatever we want on our top half.

  • @whoberry with my DS#1 those first few pics of him on my chest I'm wearing that terrible gown with half the snaps undone.  With DS#2 I ended up in just my sports bra with the gown over my lap.  A nice robe is a great idea.  I'm sure the hospital has some sort of policy that says we need to be in a gown, but they are so stiff and uncomfortable to walk around and labor in!  There has to be an alternative other than being naked.  Thanks for the response!

  • I have a question re: registry stuff.

I just got a package in the mail and couldn't tell who it was from, so naturally I opened it. Inside was the wet/dry bag that I wanted (and my first thought was, whoa how did someone know I wanted this??) Well, duh, it was on my Amazon registry that I started awhile ago but never really told people I had. My friend looked me up on Amazon, saw my registry there, and bought it for me. Super nice!

I'm inviting her to the shower next month, so the question is, is it ok to send a thank-you card now or should I pretend I didn't open it and send it later?

Also, I am using BBB/Target as my main registries now, should I deactivate the Amazon one then? Or if people are going to use it to search for gifts, keep it and work on it?

    What say you salty hoes?
