Trying to Get Pregnant

TTC and need advice with early ovulation and long cycles

I posted this in TTC and realized this form might be better...

Hello. I'm new to this form and not quite up to speed on the acronyms...my apologies. Any way, my husband and I have been TTC for 6 months. We're both 31 and this would be our first. Getting frustrated we finally started using the ClearBlue digital ovulation tests. According to these test, I LH surge on day 13 of an average 38 day cycle. So I'm ovulating around day 15 and then blessed with 23 days of waiting. Today I'm a week past O and am woke up spotting (brown). Of course I instantly I think it's implatation bleeding but spotting mid-cylce has been the norm for be for about a year. Though, I have never spotted this early before. I usually spot a week or so before my period. I should also note that my pms has gotten worse over the last 6 months so I'm worried I've got hormone imbalance issues...this could also be due to the TTC pressure. I get bat shit crazy for about a week and think maybe I'm pregnant then...dun dun dun...my monthly gift arrives.

Anyone else have mid-cycle spotting? And what about early ovulation and long cycles?Just looking for a little insight. #feelingcrazy

  • i think you would really benefit from reading a book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility. You cannot have a 23 day luteal phase. A positive OPK shows you are having an LH surge, which usually but does not always means you will ovulate in the next couple days. A positive OPK does not prove that you actually ovulated. You have to chart your basal body temperature to do that. THe follicular phase is the period between your period and ovulation. It can vary cycle to cycle for the same woman. THe luteal phase is the period after ovulation. It will be between 10-16 days. For an individual woman, it will be consistently around the same number of days. For me, it is 12. If you think you had a 23 day luteal phase, you either ovulated later than you think, or you were pregnant and lost the baby early.

    QFP.

    I don't have mid-cycle spotting, so I can't help you there.

It can take a healthy couple up to a year to conceive. My advice, don't over analyze anything. It's hard, I know, but don't do it. You should really read the newbie blog and familiarize yourself with fertility friend. If you aren't already, you should be tracking your bbt (basal body temp) and that will confirm ovulation. OPKS are great for a general idea of when you might ovulate, but temps will confirm (unless you have ovulation issues). Read the book Taking Charge of your Fertility and I can almost guarantee you will feel better.

Also, the women on this board are amazing and knowledgeable. Just don't ask if you are pregnant.

  • I don't think you're ovulating early...early ovulation is considered to be before CD10. Read the book The Borg7of9 suggested and start temping so you can confirm ovulation.

  • What everyone else said, and also- you've been trying for 6 months and noticed for the past 6 months your PMS has gotten bad. I would be willing to bet that you've noticed your PMS being worse BECAUSE you're TTC (and you likely do not have a hormone imbalance). It makes you notice every single thing and it's a mindfuck. Your symptoms probably haven't changed- you're just paying more attention now.

    I really, really recommend temping.
  • Ditto what the previous posters said.  Check out Fertility Friend (it's free!). Their tutorials are fantastic and they also have a phone app.  Temping takes a minute each morning and will eliminate the confusion about what's going on with your body.

Those ovulation tests should really come with a warning that they can't confirm ovulation.

  • Thanks for the insight everyone. I will look into and start temping. Couple things to note: I do tract my cycle using the P Tracker app and according to that, I'm in my fertile week. But I also chart CM and last week was pretty consistent with O?!

Unless you are inputting your BBT this app is guessing, and obviously guessing wrong if it's telling you that you have 20 something day LP. Seriously, switch to fertility friend.

A period app doesn't track properly. Get fertility friend and start temping and you will understand what we mean.

Good luck!  Just FYI - period tracker apps don't work because they assume the average cycle lengths.  Also, you can have fertile CM at any point in your cycle.  I get my most fertile CM the day before my period.  Go figure.
