Crib ninjas

LO is a little ninja, moving all around in her crib at night! She ends up with an arm or leg hanging out (one night I found her with both legs sticking out!) and she gets mad. Yesterday she ended up with a nasty bruise on her ear from jamming her head against the crib. She gets mad and screams, and it's awful.

I know bumpers are a no-no, and the fact that she ends up stuck along the side of the crib frequently scares me too much to even think about using one. But she keeps getting banged up and I don't know what to do! I don't want bruises all over my baby! Any ideas?

On another note... I peeked in on her right before I left for work, and she had rolled from back to tummy, and was doing tummy time all by herself! So proud of her. DH was like, "yeah, I told you, she's been doing this for a long time". It was my first time seeing it, though, so it was still a magical moment. Of course, now she gets mad when she's stuck on her tummy, so she has to learn to roll back to her back.

  • How about using a sleep sack?

Aw!  That all sounds so cute (except the bruising)!  The only suggestion I have is those mesh bumpers.  I imagine they won't offer much in terms of padding but maybe since her arm and leg won't go through the slats it will cause her to push away from the edge?  maybe?

This.  DS is all over the place and we need them.  He's on his back, his belly, scooting to the top of the crib, scooting to the side, turning 180*.  Really, I feel much better knowing that they're there than not having them at all.

  • We have the breathable mesh one as well. Wyatt was getting his legs stuck and this has solved it!

  • DS sleeps all up next to the sides top or side doesn't matter. We have the mesh bumpers and he can breathe just fine next to them. He doesn't get bruises and it does offer some padding but not too much to where they can't breathe. I put my face completely next to it and I could breathe just fine so I feel safe letting LO sleep with it.
  • Just remember that recently the studies have shown the mesh crib bumpers to not be safe either. You can heal from a broken bone. You can not come back from suffocation.

  • Sleep sack for the win, here. He's totally got my restless sleep.

  • We do have a sleep sack, we use in the rotation of her jammies. I'll have to see if she does better in that one, I haven't really noticed a difference on those nights, but I haven't been paying attention.

Another question- do you put your babies in sleep sacks/other pajamas for naps during the day?

  • We do the sleep sack at night, he's definitely a wiggle worm and it keeps his legs from getting caught. I'd try that first!
