Getting checked at docters appt, last few weeks ....

So I am 36 and a half weeks , I have a sono at the docters tomorrow . THey said they will start checking me at 37 weeks but I want to get checked tomorrow. Can you ask them to do this? Ive been having alot of cramps and pains and just want to see if anything is going on down there ! Plus im anxious !  Is the docter gonna scold me for asking to get checked?

Sure you can ask - but keep in mind cervical checks really don't tell you anything.  You can go from zero to baby in hours or walk around 4 cm+ dilated for weeks.

As the PPs said, it won't really tell you anything. Plus, you are still a month out from your due date. I like to avoid having people shove their hand up there as much as I can, I wouldn't volunteer for a check.

I am 35 weeks and I asked to be checked at my last appt b/c of cramping and contractions. I was also starting to dilate at 32 weeks. My OB didn't have a problem with checking me this week. Just tell them it will help ease your mind and comfort you to know if you are dilated at all.

I will actually refuse cervical checks since I don't really see the point.

I guess I don't understand how finding out if you're dilated is comforting?

my dr won't start checking until 39 wks unless there are any issues which I was planning to refuse them because they don't tell you much. I was 1 cm at 40 wks and 3 days and dr told me she doubted shed see me before induction 3 days later but I went into labor that same day so its not accurate

Since this is my 2nd time around, my doctor has offered to check me at 37 weeks, totally my choice - I asked what the benefit would be, since it is no indication of when the baby might come, but she said if I know that I am several centimeters dilated when labor does start, I should get to the hospital sooner than later rather than laboring at home for a while.   So I am considering this, for me.
