Baby Nightmares/Dreams

Who else has a baby who frequently has (what seems to be) nightmares?

DD has them a lot lately and just cries or shrieks in her sleep. Like sobbing crying and loud shrieks until I wake her up. Now, obviously I don't want to wake her, but last night for instance, she sobbed for five minutes straight until I did.

Makes me sad :-( and makes me wonder what she could be dreaming about!

DD does this occasionally! She will literally burst into tears. I always pick her up and it rarely wakes her up but usually calms her down. Twice I've had to wake her up. I think it honestly scares me more than her.

FWIW DH has night terrors... Violent screaming horrible night terrors. When he has them I almost always have to change the sheets because he sweats through them. I constantly find myself hoping DD won't somehow inherit this.

DD never wakes from them unless I actively talk to her or take her pacifier away. She would sleep right through them otherwise.
My brother has night terrors as well. Extremely bad ones and has seen a psychiatrist for them and everything. I grew up having to wake him from those almost one a week.

  • my LO will sometimes cry in her sleep (she used to do it more when she was smaller) but it only usually lasts about a minute and she is still sleeping.  My cousins son had night terrors as a baby, though.  So I guess I wouldn't rule it out if it happens frequently!

  • Yes - my girls - especially Lizzy have been doing this quite a bit recently.  Just crying in her sleep.  She stops when I pick her up but never wakes up and if I leave her and don't pick her up, the crying gets worse.  We've had to put the girls in separate rooms temporarily because Lizzy kept waking Haley up.  I'm hoping its a phase?  Please, please be a phase!

  • Yup. She will just ball for about a minute and then settle back down. My mom said I used to cry in my sleep a lot as a kid. It makes me sad for her.

  • My LO has just started doing this as well. It breaks my heart to see her so sad and crying in her sleep. Like you, I don't know what I should do when it happens. Wake her up? Let her go? Luckily while I'm contemplating what to do, she usually stops.
