Really? F***in really?

If any if you remember I had a false positive chlamydia urine test at my first prenatal appt back in January. As I later found out, this happens pretty often at first visits... anyway, the situation was handled in such an unprofessional way! I was basically told my husband was cheating and that I needed to take antibiotics RIGHT AWAY and I also need to come in for "sexual health counseling" I saw another dr at a different clinic & had a swab test, tested negative (duh) and decided to not go back to the original ob office. Fast forward to today... I got a nasty call from a nurse SOLDING me like a 5 year old for not coming in to get my prescription to treat the chlamydia infection. She said I was risking my health and the baby's health and said and I quote "what kind of mother puts their baby in danger for a treatable infection?" Woah bitch. Slow your roll! Not that I needed to explain, but I told her I tested negative at a different ob office. She refused to believe me. She asked when I had the test done, who had done it, what lab, then asked me to sign a records release to confirm the test was actually negative. I had been polite to that point. She got a friendly "fuck off" and I hung up. I can not believe the nerve some people have. I will be writing a lovely complaint letter to their director. It took all of my will not to drive over there and scream at them. I wish I could have a beer!!!

Edited cause apparently I can't spell when I have my angry eyes on!

Re: Really? F***in really?

  • I bet the "fuck off" felt good. Good for you!

  • Ick. I'd call whatever the management office is there and complain big time.

  • Wow, you handled that much better than I would have! They have zero business asking for your new patient records how she did.  I am sure your attitude would have been completely different if they didn't get all snotty right off the get go.  I agree with TBarker925 that the "f*** off" probably felt pretty great!

  • I'd certainly call and complain. It's against the law for her to be demanding your health information from another clinic. She should be fired.

  • I would ask your new OB to send your neg results along and not even deal with that shitty place anymore, except to make sure a complaint is filed! That is a seriously shitty way to talk to you. I would have flown off the handle.
  • Omg. I don't think that I would have been that nice either. I'm glad you told her off a bit.

To play devil's advocate, they might need the negative test information because they have to report positive std tests to the CDC. But I wholeheartedly agree that nurse behaved atrociously.

You are absolutely right!! The first call back I'm January, they did mention that they would be reporting me to the health department. How freaking embarrassing if they actually did! I think I will have my current dr fax them the results to make sure that gets cleared up. Thanks for reminding me about that! I was so angry I totally forgot!
  • I totally forgot to add she asked me "do you know how std's are spread right" haha! Nope. Sure don't. In fact, I have no idea how this baby got in here!! In all seriousness, thank you all for letting me vent. I didn't tell my husband this situation, no need to get him all pissed off. Felt good to get it off my chest. You guys are all so awesome!
  • That's awful! I can relate, unfortunately. I had a false positive once before pregnancy and the nurse did something similar, insinuating my husband had cheated.... just not possible. Told me to get the antibiotics right away and wouldn't listen to me when I said I'd like to get retested... ugh! I did get re-tested anyway and obviously negative. UGH is right! Your nurse, however, sounded way worse than mine was, I hope you do send a letter or something, that's so uncalled for.

I 100% agree that they probably do have to report to the CDC; however, the nurse could have handled it so much better than she did.  There is zero reason to treat someone like that!

  • Good for you! I'm glad that nurse finally got told to eff off. If I were you I'd be so pissed I'd probably be demanding that she get fired. So completely unprofessional it's almost unbelievable. Ugh.

  • The nurse was an idiot and you have a right to be upset. I am an STI nurse specialist though, and I will tell you that we have many pregnant women with true cases of chlamydia who don't come in for treatment or only do so after weeks and weeks of trying to get them
To return to clinic for meds. I understand how violated you feel though, because unfortunately your RN took the WRONG approach.
  • Wow! Unbelievable.  So sorry you had to go through all that crap.

Well - I can tell you I got a test with my RE saying I had chlamydia in the past. I made them run it again and it came back saying no signs of past chlamydia. I think they ran a different test as well. .... This was when I was doing my screens + diagnostic stuff before starting IF treatments..... Despite knowing better - DH was definitely eyeing me funny LOL.
