Parenting after a Loss

Rolling?

When do babies start to roll from stomach to back? Our 7 week old did tonight. I didn't believe DH when he said DD did it for him twice. He put her on her tummy and she did it again. Is this a fluke or is she really starting to roll? Honestly we have been slacking on the tummy time so I am very surprised.

  • That's amazing! B still hates rolling and she's almost 6 months! I don't think she did it for the first time until around 4 months.

  • LK did it at 10 weeks, we never really did tummy time either. She did it twice in a row. It was another couple weeks before she did it again and then it was five times in a row and then a few weeks again. Sometimes she would still cry because she didn't want to be on her tummy, like she forgot she could do it. She rolled back to tummy at 4.5 months and now goes back and forth all day every day! I think you've just got a little rock star! It's early for sure and some days she may not feel like doing it but sounds like she's a little advanced which is awesome!

  • O first rolled a little over 3 months, but really didn't seem to do it much more. Now at almost 6 months he does it much more, mainly to get himself into crawling position.

  • That seems early, but it could be that she's a smart little girl that's trying to get out of tummy time. ;)  Mine didn't really do it until 4-6 months.  That was mainly because she would look up at me when I stood up and that would cause her to roll.  That's when it clicked for her.

  • A did it really early like that too. Her doctor said it's often a fluke & once they start gaining weight they lose that ability. She started doing it regularly and intentionally at about 4 months.

  • DS rolled that direction about 3 times at 3 weeks! I was terrified. Like pp, he didn't do it again for quite some time and it was not intentional in those early weeks. I think the weight of his head just pulled his body over. He ended up intentionally rolling from back to belly first at about 3 months followed by belly to back at about 4 months.
