Nervous about ET

It seems really weird - I wasn't nervous about ER... but i'm so nervous about ET tomorrow.  I'm feel i'm more emotional now than when i was on all the hormones.  I think I've let myself get too hopeful and I'm so scared how i'm going to feel if it doesn't work

For those ladies who have done this before - what is it like during ET?

After ER, ET is cake! It is just like a pap. I had acupuncture yesterday before my ET and it really helped me relax! I think the hardest part was worrying how my embies did and that i'd have some to transfer! Good luck to you and I swear, it isn't bad at all!!

Did you do the "mock embryo" transfer? It really is very similar, except that your bladder is pretty full and they leave the catheter in longer. If you are really worried about it or had a bad experience with the mock (I'm not good with anything going up my cervix, it is extremely painful for me) you could have your nurse call in a rx for valium and take Tylenol before it. I was very excited and hopeful and while I thought it was still uncomfortable, I think that was due to something with my cervix and is not super common.

My ET was the first time (to my knowledge) I've ever been on Valium, so frankly I was having a pretty good time. I also read this crazy study that clowns post-ET can help success rates
(https://www.reuters.com/article/2011/01/12/us-send-clowns-idUSTRE70B64P20110112) so OH brought his iPad in with a funny video preloaded. At my RE's you're supposed to stay lying down for 30 minutes, so this worked out perfectly.

So, yeah, I got high and watched Stephen Colbert. Not a bad way to spend a morning!

ET is a BREEZE and pretty exciting too! It's fun to watch those embies make their way on the screen! I know the feeling that you have though. I always feel "pressure to make it work right" after the ET! It's always so daunting on me wondering if my body is going ot accept this or not. You're gonna do great! Just keep a excited optimistic attitude!

ET is a piece of cake. Like @SKLH said, it is exciting to watch the embies shoot out of the catheter and make their way inside.  Hang in there and good luck!

@carol77b I've never heard of a Mock embryo transfer... not sure i'd want to go through it twice lol.  I'm very similar to you it sounds - it's always very painful when they put anything through the cervix

ET is nothing to be worried about.  It is quick, simple and pretty much painless.  I had to take a prescribed does of valium before mine due to an issue with my cervix opening.  Perhaps that made me even more relaxed

Do ask about the water quantity you need to drink. My office told me not to over drink or it would be uncomfortable. You only need your bladdr half full (if I remember correctly).  I think (can't exactly remember now) I drank about 20 oz of water about 45 minutes before the procedure.

GL, I'm sure you'll be fine.  And then you will be PUPO !!!

I had a mock transfer as well.  I didn't have much discomfort either time but am certain the Valium helped a ton!  I would definitely ask your RE for a Valium.  I know I couldn't go in there without one!

one more question - how long typically until your first beta test?  I know it's called the TWW but I would be expecting AF next week... so do they actually wait a full 2 weeks?  Won't I know that i'm a week late at that point?

I've had it done several times. The procedure itself is a breeze and pretty cool to see your embies and go home with a picture.... BUT  every time I misjudge the pee. Thats the worst part. On my ist IVF my bladder was SUPER FULL, not to mention I had 53 follies so my ovaries were the size of cantaloupes. So that was pretty painful. Then I had a medium filled bladder on my 1st FET and they had a hard time with the visibility (why I think my 1st FET failed). And then I had a full bladder on the 2nd FET, and I felt it was too much so I used the bathroom a little bit and it helped a lot.

I was shocked at how easy and quick ET is! The worst part for me was having a full bladder, others tips about half full is something I will do this time.

Just like the rest of the ladies have mentioned the ET is very easy.  But I always get emtional as I lay there waiting.  For the the procedure is filled with so much hope and everything seems so huge.  You will do great!  hang in there.

ET is easy. You basically just lay there pretty still and they insert them in with a catheter.  The worst part is having a full bladder. The second time I made sure it wasn't super full because the first time I was going to explode.  GL

Regarding the TWW. With IVF, the day of your ER is considered your ovulation day.  So, that begins the TWW. You should have a scheduled beta for two weeks after your ER. Also, remember that with IVF your cycle is not the same as when you count the days from your lmp. You also can't test too early or the test will detect the HCG from the trigger shot and not your actual HSG.

@privateone thanks... there is so much to learn!  but I guess the good news it that kinda cuts the TWW down since you have the days between ER and ET... mind you that's waiting too!  Guess there is no escape lol

As the ladies said above, the ET procedure itself is very quick and easy. Honestly, the worst part is laying on the table with a full bladder!! 

As far as getting emotional and feeling afraid of the results... that's completely normal! Hang in there

Personally, I'm freaking out about my Day 5 Fert Report, and we haven't even triggered yet! Yeesh! By this point, we know where our cycles tend to fall apart, and we can't help but to be an emotional mess about it!! I'm trying so hard to take deep breaths and distract myself.... it's counterproductive to worry about something you can't control (though impossible not to be worried!!).

Haha! How true I'm using the powers of distraction for now. Trying to book my calendar solid so I keep myself (and my mind) busy for those five days! Good luck with your ET!
