Red Bumps on Belly

Hey ladies! Just curious if anyone has had experience with this or not. I have little red bumps on my belly that are very itchy. The doctor tested for PUPPP and some liver issues and all tests came back fine. They seem to itch worse when I wear clothes with a belly band (which is slightly inconvenient considering my current condition ;) ) Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience or any ideas for relief. Thanks.

Re: Red Bumps on Belly

  • Is it a reaction to your laundry soap? Maybe try a different brand/ non sented. Or are you sweating under the band and that is causing you to break out? I know in the summer if I wear tight clothing I will get nasty rash. Good luck

I've had a few here and there but they haven't really been itchy. They've been fairly small. I've had an itchy belly in general from time to time. I use Palmer's skin therapy oil a couple of times a week, after I shower, and the spots go away on their own.

Could it be a reaction to the synthetic material in the band? Polyester makes me react that way in some areas.

ETA: Maybe try tucking a cotton tank or cami inside the band when you wear maternity pants and see if that helps?

  • I hadn't thought of having a reaction to the synthetic material in the band..but that may be an idea. We use an unscented laundry detergent because DH has sensitive skin, but maybe we could try switching to a different brand. My mom had asked about me getting too hot too, and at this point, it don't think that I am sweating really under there. Thanks for the suggestions ladies. :)

  • Have you been sick? I had a viral rash that started on my lower belly and spread to thighs, back, and all the way up to under my boobs. I thought I had PUPPPS and was doomed. It happened right around the time I got a stomach virus. Unbearably itchy! The thing that helped the most was aloe Vera gel... Dried it up. Sounds like you could have a contact rash from the belly band though. That synthetic material does not let the skin breathe.
  • I have like two small red bumps near my belly button, but they haven't really been itchy.  I agree with PPs though that maybe you could be having a reaction to something?

Other then some congestion, I haven't really been sick. I have been using Eucerin on it, and that does provide some relief. Cocoa butter hasn't really helped any better than that. Sounds like I should try aloe vera though...and maybe look into some pants for work that don't have the full belly band. I truly appreciate all suggestions.

  • I have annoying bumps on my belly, and it seems like it doesn't matter what I wear. I've asked my midwife about them and she said that they are normal.

  • This happens to me too but it's not really bumps but the whole front of my belly is really red. I think it's the stretchy material bc I always feel better with my underbelly pants.
Try some cortisone or anti-itch and the cotton tank under the band, I have to do that now every time I wear "over the bellies"..

  • My first thought was heat rash too. Maybe with the layers of synthetic fabric? I hope the itching subsides!

  • You can get dry skin (or eczema) from pregnancy, plus IDK where you are located but the weather does a number on my skin if I forget to lotion up often enough.

  • DId your doctor talk to you about Pityriasis Rosea?  Starts on your stomach and then may show up several weeks later on your arms and legs?  Not as itchy as PUPPS....which is awful, but still uncomfortable.  It is a virus.

  • I've been having this on my low back too. I'm so itchy I can't sleep! I've found it gets worse if I don't lotion up after showering, because my skin has been super dry on my belly & back. I can't get my underbelly pants to stay up, so I'm sticking with my belly bands & tucking my shirt in. I use a little cortisone cream if I've been scratching too much & the itch is out of control.

He didn't say anything to me about this. His initial reaction when I was telling him about it was dry skin (I live in MN and in the winter I tend to struggle with dry skin anyway). But then when he lifted up my shirt to do my tummy check he goes, "Oh, you do have red spots" and he ordered the tests. He was running behind so he didn't take much time to chat. I will look into this though. Is there a treatment for it, or does it just go away naturally?

You can take antivirals to speed things up. There is also numbing cream, but I"m not sure if they are pregnancy approved meds or not.

  • I broke out in an all over rash at 5 weeks and thought I was doomed with early PUPPs but after 2 weeks of steroid creams it went away. Doc still has no idea what it was. One thing that did help reduce some of the itching was pine tar soap and a lot of PUPPs sufferers swear by it. My full panel mat jeans also make my belly itch so when I'm sitting I just fold the panel down to under my bump
