So my DH and I have been very cautiously optimistic through this whole thing because like all of us here on this board, we know how wrong this can go, and how much it hurts when it does.  So we are VERY excited, but also reserved, that we have 2 little heartbeats in there

When we found out it was twins of course we were all "oh my gosh!" and other excited words, a normal reaction I would think.  Anyway, the US tech said "Now you have to realize just because there is a HB at 6 weeks doesn't mean you'll have one at 8 weeks, you need to be cautiously optimistic." (she says with undue emphasis)  W. T. F?  Who says that? Like we don't already know that?!

Am I overreacting?

That's messed up! Why would they casually say that to someone who so wants these babies!! I would be livid and prob told her to stfu! Ugh some people! Seriously sorry that happened don't let that ruin the moment! Huge congrats to you and DH!!

Yeah, that was incredibly rude. I would tell the practice manager. She needs to take some sensitivity classes. Congrats on your twins!

I think you should get yourself together and call the office. I think you should kindly report that comment to someone. It's rude. I think people who do this job all the time are desensitized. That being said, I've never heard of this happening before

Sorry for the insensitive comment to ruin the fun!  I would definitely complain. Congrats on the twins! And my RE said the same thing, once you see HBs, the odds are definitely i n your favor!

I feel ya! At our first u/s, the tech told me baby b was measuring small and might not continue to grow. Um stfu! Guess how many babies I'm still carrying? Congrats and welcome to the club!

Ignore her and yay on the babies! It was very exciting when we found out too. Our ob said we were making her numbers look good

CONGRATS on the twins! How amazing!!

When I went for my first u/s on Monday, the tech didn't know I was already in the room and said to another tech "since she's only 7 weeks along, her odds are 50/50." 

I was thinking- first of all, my odds are more like 80/20- learn the statistics, mister! And secondly, be more careful what you say when patients might be around!

You are not overreacting, that was unnecessary. Maybe she thought she was being helpful, but clearly after what you've been through, you understand all possible scenarios. Anyway, don't let that ruin you're excitement. TWINS!!

First off, congrats times two! Second, that was an incredibly insensitive thing for the tech to say. I'd definitely make a call and talk to someone about it. She's not the doctor and shouldn't be making comments such as that. Period.

That was a rude comment- it amazes me how people in healthcare can be so insensitive. When I was about 14 weeks, I got bit by a deer tick and my area is ripe for Lyme. The nurse at my GP said "oh it will be a shame after you spent all that money on IVF, if this messes things up" ummm... Is that the right choice of words or anything that any patient would want to hear!!!

Anyways- ignore them and Best of luck to you!!!

That u/s tech was extremely insensitive - apparently ignorant on what or what not to say.  I agree with @BBColt - I'd definitely report that comment to the office.

I've still been stewing over this.  You know what may be just as annoying, is anyone I tell (besides you ladies because you totally get it) almost defend her, "well she probably doesn't want you to get your hopes up too high."  I KNOW, ugh, people seriously just do not get it.  

I have a second us next thurs and then I will probably tell the clinic.  She is the only tech there and I really don't want it to be more awkward then it has to be for our second us.  

But seriously thank you ladies for validating how insensitive this was of her.
