Multiples

Is it normal to feel THIS pregnant already?!

This is my 3rd pregnancy and I'm 18 weeks, but I swear, I feel like I'm more like 30+ weeks pregnant. I'm sore everywhere, I have Braxton Hicks, I can't get comfortable to sleep, and my pelvis hurts so bad I'm already waddling. I'm scared to death what I will feel like in a few months!! Is this normal for a twin pregnancy? Or, am I just getting wimpy in my old age?

Re: Is it normal to feel THIS pregnant already?!

  • This is my third pregnancy, but my first with multiples and yes it is definitely different.  Much harder and more intense.  My biggest complaint is the hip pain!  OMG!  No one could have prepared me for that.  I am now at 30w and I look full term and am measuring at 37w.  My OB told me to expect 6 1/2 lb or 7 lb babies... I can't even imagine how big I will be or how impossible it will be to move!
  • I can commiserate with you! I already have SPD-my vagina feels broken :-(

BUT we can get through this. One thing that helps is taking epsom salt baths. It is also supposed to prevent preterm labor but I noticed that it helps take some of the pain away.
It also helps to keep a countdown. Saying I only have 15w left is very helpful for me because it doesnt seem that far away.

  • I have nothing to compare this to but I felt very pregnant at 18 weeks. Now I'm almost 33 weeks and measuring 38 weeks. It's fairly miserable physically.

  • I am 26 weeks and miserable as well.  Baby A is head down and putting so much pressure that I constantly feel like I am being kicked in the crotch.  Every time a sit/stand or roll over in bed, my pubic bone pops...it is intense.  This is nothing like my singleton pregnancy...I am huge, with people asking if I am due at any time.  Hang in there momma :)
  • I am 26 weeks and measuring 35 weeks, so yes I feel very pregnant. I have tried to stay very active and feel pretty good overall but sometimes I can't breathe and my heart just pounds in my chest. It's hard to roll over in bed and to get up off the couch. Sometimes my pelvic floor hurts and when I stand up I feel like my bladder and/or vagina are going to fall out. I am only 5'1 and wondering where the heck these babies are going to go. I look and feel like I did near the end of my pregnancy with DD.
  • The overall soreness since very early on has been the biggest difference this pregnancy. My legs, hips, back, and crotch have all been so sore, and if I dare push through any kind of physical activity like going to the grocery store, forget it. I'm out. So even early on when I wasn't necessarily looking hugely pregnant, I definitely FELT it.

Now I'm 23 weeks and I'm getting more and more sore, but I feel like it's at least justifiable at this point, whereas early on I was feeling like a big baby for all the aches and pains. But as it turns out, I wasn't a baby and neither are you. Just the joys of a multiple pregnancy.

  • Yup.  I feel you.  I have been saying that having twins is like being in the shortest 2nd tri and longest 3rd tri ever.  I am measuring about 29 weeks and definitely waddling and feeling huge.  People are starting to look at me with great sympathy when they realize I have about 16 weeks to go!

  • I agree! I'm 23 weeks tomorrow, was measuring 25 weeks two weeks ago at my last appointment and feel so much bigger than I look. I have such a hard time bending over, putting on my socks/shoes, have been waddling for weeks and really often feel like one of these little girls is pushing through my cervix already! So much vaginal pressure and low abdominal heaviness. But the worst part is that people are constantly telling me how small my belly is (which is starting to get annoying) that I feel like they think I'm being overly dramatic when I talk about how much trouble I'm having with these things already!

  • I felt terrible from probably weeks 20-25 or so... I felt like I had SPD, not sure if I do or not, but it seems to have eased up or I just got used to it.  My SI joint was also out of place so my hips and back were in so much pain, but it's gone back into place, not sure if it's because one of the babies moved or what.  My OB said that could happen though.  I'm 29 weeks and measuring 33 and I feel better physically than I did earlier on, but that probably won't last much longer.
  • I'm 18 weeks now and it's insane how pregnant I feel.  I pulled out pictures of when I was pregnant with DS and at 18 weeks I'm looking the same size as I did with him at 24-26.  I'm actually outgrowing maternity clothes at this point, I have so much pelvic pressure and hip pain that I'm waddling everywhere, I get winded just walking up and down the stairs. I feel like I'm being dramatic but talking to other MoMs I realize this is just what it's going to be like.  It's going to be interesting once I get further along.

  • This exactly! This is my 3rd pregnancy and I feel like such a wimp! I'm only 20 weeks and everything hurts! You are not alone : )
  • I'm 18 weeks and already got a maternity support band. Never even thought about getting one with my singleton. Tonight, my DH lovingly told me I look like I'm term. Thanks, babe. I'm feeling it, but I can't complain too much yet. I'm still sleeping decently and I'm just starting to waddle and get creative when it comes to tying my shoes. I've already warned DH that if he doesn't want me to have amazingly hairy legs this summer, he's probably going to gave to shave them for me. He's conflicted on what to do about that one.
  • Yep. Normal. I feel like I'm 30+ weeks pregnant & I'm only 24. I know I don't have too much longer to go, but it feels interminable. My body aches, I'm exhausted all the time, and I'm ready to be done. I complain a lot - I don't want to, but good grief. This is way harder with twins than with a singleton. I had SO much energy at this point with my daughter, but now, I feel like I could use a nap everyday.

  • I'm 27 weeks and have noticed that some days I'm miserable while others I feel pretty good.  If I take my iron/prenatal supplements then I usually have a good day but if I forget to take them or am too nauseous to get them down then I'm dead tired.  The hip pain and rib cage pain have been my biggest complaints.  My mobility gets worse every week and just getting out of bed is a struggle.  It won't be long until I'm confined to sleeping in a recliner.  This is my first pregnancy so I have no basis of comparison.

I agree most with this post!  Last week I measured 28wks at 22wks, and people at work think I "look great" for having 2.   But - I feel huge, uncomfortable, sore.
They all know how happy I am to finally be pregnant, so I try as hard as I can not to complain.  I think they will be surprised when I quit work early or go on "light duty".  I already have more BHs at work than I do on my off days.

Twins born March 2014 at 26 weeks due to preterm labor
    and our 37weeker born May 9th, 2016!

  • Wow. I've had three singleton pregnancies early in life. Now at 42 I have twins. I'm only 8 weeks but I've started to show n I'm sooooo tired. Reading all the posts scares me for what is ahead.
  • You all can do it!  I carried my girls to 38 weeks and they were almost 6 and 7 pounds each.  I distinctly remember at 35 weeks thinking I COULDN'T take it one day longer.  My feet were swollen pig ankles, I had to get help to get out of bed and was miserable.  My moms best friend said that meant I still had three more weeks.  And damn, she was right!

Stay strong, get your rest, get in some walks if you can, drink more water than humanly possible.  Your babies will be here before you know it!!

  • I'm right there with you. I'm already miserable. This is my 3rd pregnancy in 3 years though, and my second with twins (that pregnancy ended @ 22w3d though). My pregnancy with DD was wonderful, and I was only miserable in the 3rd tri, and more near the end. Now I tell DH I don't know how I'll even manage to make it that far feeling like this! Taking care of DD has been a monumental task; I just don't have the energy to play with her as much. :( I'm waddling already, too, and just feel (and look) huge! People ask when I'm due, and I'm like "July," and they're just like "ohhh." Ugh! It'll be worth it, but it's been rough.

  • A twin pregnancy is no joke. Sorry, just being honest. You will have days, probably even fairly early on, when you just don't know how you can keep going, but you will. Having other LO(s) to take care of while pregnant with multiples definitely makes the task even more monumental. Hang in there. This too shall pass :-)
