FYI/PSA for BFing

I know there have been lots of threads asking about best types of pumps, etc., but did you know that your insurance plan has to provide you with a pump?  I would highly recommend contacting your insurance before buying one on your own.  Here are the details:

  • For some the only one covered may be a manual, but it is definitely worth looking into before making any big purchase.

I realize about the grandfathered plans and that it may only cover a manual pump 100%. All of those things are in the link I listed above. My own plan only covers the manual at 100%, but will actually cover an electric pump at the same percentage as any other medical problem/visit after I meet my deductible, which has already happened. Just trying to help out those who are trying to save money/don't have $300 to spend on a pump. I did search for threads about this and only saw ones on what type of pump to buy. My bad if I posted about something that's been done a million times already.

  • I called my insurance company last week and got details. Am excited that it reimburses up to $300 as they're considered durable medical goods (DMG). Anything over $300 I have to get preapproved before filing reimbursement. Not bad considering how much I'm shelling out w/ the whole deductible thing...
  • Tricare covers absolutely nothing.. Yay.. So excited about these new laws.. lol is my sarcasm font working?

  • Bcbs would not cover one but my husband got a new job so I will be calling our new insurance today to see if they will cover one.
  • Really? We have bcbs and their rep told me they would cover one but there had to medical need, I'm sure that can include any number of reasons. Good thing you are getting new ins
  • I have bc bs and I was told that my plan covers 50% after deductible. I can go buy what I want and send in the receipt with the claims form for a refund.
