Hello! - intro

Hi guys! I've been lurking a little bit and this board is fun. Just so I don't start posting randomly and everybody's like "who are you???" I thought I would intro.

I'm a 29yo working mom of a 15-month old, her name is Alice. She's a sweet and happy kid, but very bossy. I know some ladies who post here from the November '12 BMB.

I love cilantro, return shopping carts and vaccinate my kid. I love Sherlock but have never watched Doctor Who (I know, flame-worthy).

I live pretty far away from most of you, in Sao Paulo, Brazil. I feel like it's important for you to know that we have McDonald's, Burger King and Outback but not Chick Fil-A and Chipotle. So I won't be able to weigh in on all the fast-food related discussions. We also don't have Girl Scout cookies (in fact, cookies are not an area in which Brazilians are strong).

If there's anything else you'd like to know about me, just ask!

  • Just to clarify, we do have cookies on sale at the supermarket and such, they're just not very good. No Girl Scout cookies though.

Also most Brazilians don't know how to bake good cookies. I have some American cookie recipes so I can bake a decent chocolate chip cookie and spice cookie.
  • @justaphase there are selfie threads? That sounds like fun, don't remember seeing one. I'm curious as to what everyone looks like. I like to think I'm hot but when we do said selfie thread y'all can be the judge of that :-P

  • Welcome! What types of desserts do you have? I could live without cookies, but not without good chocolate and tiramisu.

  • @mrscodemonkey We have good chocolate and tiramisu in good Italian restaurants. We also have lots of Portuguese desserts with loads of eggs and sugar. Also tons of desserts with coconut, of which I'm not a fan.

On the home baking front people like to bake cakes and puddings.
  • Hello! Your daughter is so cute! Sorry about your cookie situation, and your lack of coconut love, but I'll sit with you on the cilantro bench. Sorry, @justaphase.

How long have you lived in Brazil? What time zone is Sao Paulo? I'm too lazy to google it.

  • @luckydad I was born here but growing up I lived here, in Germany and in the US.

It seems I am two hours ahead of US Eastern time, or GMT - 3:00, i.e. it's now 2:50 PM in New York and 4:50 PM here.

  • Hi!  Cilantro is delicious and cookies are too, but not together.

Your daughter has beautiful eyes.  :-)
