How much phone data do you use in a month?

I have an older iPhone that mostly works fine. I've resisted upgrading because I was grandfathered in to an unlimited data package with Verizon and the next time I upgrade my phone, I'll lose it and be relegated to 2GBs/month for the same price as what I'm paying now.

I realize, eventually, I'll need a new phone but I feel so lost in this sea of limitations on my browsing. My phone tells me that in my current period (whatever time-frame that is) I've used 3.5GBs - so.. shit. How are you guys doing with your data usages?

I rarely go over 2 GB. I use wi-fi at home and at work though.

I'm assuming you mean internet data usage because I don't know what photo data is.
Oops - yes, meant phone. Thanks.

Under 300MB per month, because I hook into every free wireless network I can to transfer data, and limit my usage when not on wireless.  I've found that nearly everywhere I go that I have time to be browsing on my phone, I can also get on a wireless network.  I've also set every app that I can to only update when on wireless, and limited how often other apps refresh data.

This approach works for me because I have a network at home and one at work, and I spend 95% of my time in those two places.  Lame, huh?
Not lame at all - these are great ideas, thanks!

  • Currently DS & I share 4GB

  • We have 3 devices on 4 GB. We use wifi whenever possible so that helps!
  • I'm usually on wifi (at work and at home and wherever I happen to be). I'm thinking that the "current period" that my phone listed might have been for an extended period of time, so I re-set it and will check it again in a week or so. Thanks for all the tips.

  • I am on wifi at work and home, but I still have 5.7GB of cellular data usage in the 'current period'. Which I'm guessing is since I got my phone in November.

  • So I just checked, and I average about 12GBs a month. Fortunately I have unlimited data.

That is a lot of data. do you have Wi-Fi at home? I'm mostly on Wi-Fi. I just upgraded my plan so I can mobile bump when I'm away from home.
I do use wifi at home. I use most of my data while at work. I like to watch Netflix when I'm not busy and I'm rarely busy so...

  • You can keep your unlimited plan, if you pay full price for the phone. For us, it was worth paying an additional $400 for the phone because we use a lot of data.

Hot damn I didn't even consider this. Genius.

  • I use wifi at home but 3G / 4G at work and everywhere else.

I have a sad iPhone history. (FWP.) I had an iPhone 5, and I usually used between 2GB and 3GB on that. Then I washed it in the washing machine, and it couldn't be fixed, so I had to go back to an old iPhone 3, and I only used 1GB a month on that because it was so incredibly slow. Now I have an iPhone 4 and use a little less than 2GB.
  • I use 300-500 MB a month.

I do the same as PP.  I use my wifi when Im home and at places where it's offered free.

if you can get your hands on an AT&T iPhone, you can use Straight Talk for $45 a month - unlimited everything.  They just send you the sim card in the mail, you pop it in and configure it for their network, mandatory auto pre-pay every month and you never have to worry about it again.   The AT&T network pretty much sucks but then you can say - meh, I only pay $45 a month, who cares

  • We use about 2GBs per phone but we have Verizon for our WiFi as well. We have a 20GBplan for 6 phones and wifi. We can usually keep it under 14GBs but we have a cousin that comes over and downloads a shit ton of stuff and then denies it and makes us go over. Changed the password and haven't gone over since.

We don't stream movies or shows and we don't Skype unless we have extra data for the month.

I would look into that if I didn't live in the hills (literally) and I'm lucky Verizon gets decent coverage here.
