An update on my friend

Sorry to have been absent as of late...my laptop broke and I am not smart enough for mobile bump, so I've only had access at work, and I've been training for the last week so even that's been limited.

My friend went in at 2am Friday to be induced. After 24 hrs, she was only dilated 1cm. Her BP skyrocketed and they had to put her on Magnesium. They discussed a c-section at that point, but due to her BP, they were afraid there was more risk than benefit. She finally made some progress and got dilated to 6cm. They gave her an epi and they finally got her BP under control. However, after 52 (!) hrs of labor, she was stuck at 6cm and they finally decided it was safe to do a c-section. When the baby was born, they discovered that the issues they had seen on the ultrasound hadn't quite resolved afterall- the baby has a small hole in it's spine. They thought it was leaking spinal fluid, so they rushed baby to the NICU and kept baby on it's back until the neurologist could see her and determine the next step. They finally saw the dr yesterday and after poking and prodding and pressing on the hole, they have decided it is not, in fact, leaking. The dr said there isn't really anything else for them to do at the point- they want an MRI but the dr said that won't show much until baby is 3 months old. They cleared baby to be on it's back and to be treated like any normal baby. So as of now, they are trying to get baby to meet the NICU requirements for discharge. Thanks for all the T & Ps so far, I know they appreciate it. Please continue to keep them in your T & Ps, especially that that hole will resolve itself and not require surgery.
