Baby Names

Maggie

Maggie has been growing on me a lot lately. DH is onboard. I like it as a stand alone, not a nickname. It has ranked on the SSA list every single year so I guess I'm not alone. Opinions?

Re: Maggie

  • DH and I both love the NN Maggie we just don't like the formal names for it and we don't think it's enough for us as a stand alone name. DH's sister is Kate. She spends her entire life saying "no, just Kate". I think it will go in the future dog name like.

FWIW, I do like Magdalena but DH doesn't. That was the only full name I liked. Margaret is great in theory because we like Maggie and Daisy but we just don't like it unfortunately.

I go back and forth between liking Maggie and not liking it. I can't decide. I think I like it much more than not, though. ONLY as a nickname.

Someone from college named her daughter "just Maggie" and I remember hating that she gave her a nickname. Maggie is not one of those "stand alone" nicknames to me.
To be fair, you don't think Xander is either. ;)

  • I think it's an adorable nick name, but I would personally choose something like Margaret and use Maggie as a nick name.

True. :) Though I do think Xander feels more "complete." Maggie is more like Robbie / Nicky to me.

    Gotta!

ETA: That was supposed to be Gotcha. LOL! Guess my phone changed it without me noticing.

  • I really like Maggie. I prefer it as a srand alone name to Margaret, but I'd only use it as a nn. I love Magdalene as a formal name.

  • I like it as a childhood nn, but I think it's too cutesy for an adult.
  • I want to like Maggie, but I don't, which is weird because Margaret is on my list.

  • I like Maggie. I'd probably use Magnolia as a formal name, but if you want to use it as a stand alone name I think it works :)

  • DH and I love Maggie, but only as a nn and neither of us liked any of the full name options so we took it off the list.

  • I love Maggie as a NN. It's my favorite, but I have a close cousin Margaret. We've actually thought about Magnolia with NN Maggie. So cute on a little girl.

  • I know two adult "just Maggies" and it suits them just fine. They are both successful too, so I don't see that it has held them back any professionally.

Personally, I love Maggie but don't like Margaret at all.

  • I know a couple of "just Maggies". One is 2 years old and one is in her 70s, so I can easily see it as a stand alone at any age.

That said, I personally prefer it as a nick name.

  • It doesn't feel compete to me. I prefer it being a NN (a very cute NN).
