June 2013 Moms

Weaning question.

I have completely weaned from breastfeeding and pumping. I've been done with pumping for a month and stopped nursing about two weeks ago. I can still squeeze some milk out though. BTDT moms, when will the milk go away entirely??

Re: Weaning question.

  • Don't squeeze, you are indicating to your body that you need to produce. I dried up like 2 weeks after I stopped, but I have a girlfriend who swears, 2 years later, that she is still producing.

  • @wasnotwas - I only squeeze once every few days to see what comes out. I know it's counterproductive but I am curious.

I'm sure I'll do the same, but it's my understanding that for some (most?) people as long as your body needs to it will produce. But then there are some people who dry up like mid-nursing, so I dunno. With Bradley I got food poisoning pretty bad and that dried me up, so you could try eating some bad meat :)

  • I'm curious to hear answers too cause I am currently weaning from pumping at work. I want to start only feeding night and morning but want to be completely done with that around 10 or 11 months. I didn't realize that even after 2 weeks of not bf or pumping you still produce! I was hoping when I was ready to be done it would dry up fast.

  • @wasnotwas maybe I need to try the bad meat thing when I'm ready to dry up :)

  • When I was done I was done.  I quit being concerned about it and the milk went away.  Granted I stopped because my supply was already so low.  I say leave it alone and it will go away.  But it made me sad to wean when I did because I didn't necessarily want to.  So avoided realizing when it was officially gone too.
  • It's been maybe a couple of weeks for me, and same thing--I actually feel like I have a tennis ball on one side that I'm assuming is a clogged duct.  SIL was still able to express months or maybe even a year after she stopped weaning; really hoping that isn't the case here.
