Nursery gliders...

What's your recommendations? I'm wanting something comfy and spacious, but I feel like I'm having a hard time finding what I want. I've been to pottery barn kids, buy buy baby, and babies r us. (I'm probably just being a picky pregnant lady...

Re: Nursery gliders...

  • We got this glider.  Our style (in the baby's room and rest of house) is a little mid-century, so we wanted to find a glider that was a little more square in shape (not big rolled arms).  We also couldn't find anything we absolutely loved, so we were happy to find this glider that was significantly less expensive than many of the other gliders we saw in the big box stores.  It is very comfortable, made by the same manufacturers as the gliders at BRU, and has a matching ottoman.

  • We have a Little Castle brand glider. I think the style name is Monoco or something like that. We purchased it off Posh Tots but lots of retailers sell this brand. We've been very pleased with it for 2 years although, in hindsight, I wish it reclined.

  • We got this one - https://www.target.com/p/simmons-madisson-elite-glider-and-ottoman-black-espresso/-/A-14542125#prodSlot=medium_1_5

It's not too expensive and it's comfortable without being so soft that you can't get up. I like it a lot. We had the hardest time finding one because the super fluffy ones were not our style, but we wanted something still comfortable.
  • My brother and SIL recommended getting a rocker-recliner, like a La-Z-Boy.  So, we did for DD and it has been awesome.  I just wasn't into the traditional gliders.  Thought I'd throw this in in case you have not considered it.

We registered for this one at BRU. Made by little castle I think. Very comfy and good quality. Price on website said mid 400s. It was about 100 bucks less.
  • I love the Dutailier glider we bought as an impulse buy when DS was a couple months old. It's narrow enough that the arm rests provide support while breastfeeding (wide is nice, but not for nursing IMO) and the seat isn't too deep so I can get solid support with my feet on a nursing stool. There are a bunch on Amazon, didn't love the look but the comfort is like nothing else. Bought a custom one for baby's nursery- white with navy cushions. It'll arrive in March!

  • We got this glider from Target... I love it! It is comfy and fits our nursery perfectly. Plus - I wanted something that would look great in the living room for later.

  • I don't know where to tell you to look, if you've looked at all of those places and not found anything. La-z-Boy?

  • I haven't tried la-z-boy yet, we were going to do that on our next date day. You ladies have given me some stuff to think too! Right now space isn't an issue, but were currently in the process of building so It might become one once we move...
And the reclining glider, does it still rock while reclined? In my mind I thinking of the ones that can push back a bit with the ottmen thing... Or It could have been something I've made up with my pregnancy brain. Lol.
  • The Dutailier ones rock while reclined and then you can buy an ottoman with a hidden nursing stool.

  • We've had our Dutailier for 12 years now and plan on using it for our third baby. It's very comfortable, and we've just replaced the cushions.

  • This is what we got. From bru and it's a glider recliner
  • We opted for a rocking chair. My grandmother, mom and SIL all used it with their kids so I'm pretty sure it'll work. May be another option if you're not finding what you like. Just get a cushion for the seat and a foot stool or pouf if you want to put your feet up!

In an early-pregnancy, FTM freakout about not being cool anymore and the possibility of toys taking over our house, we splurged on this one from Gus Modern. (Got a small discount so it wasn't quite this much!) It's pretty. The baby will probably throw up on it.

    Oops

That's the one we're getting. I love that the recliner feature is hidden.

  • We ordered ours from Serena and lily and it's amazing. Nice high supported back and comfy arms, stuffing feels like a cloud plus it's slip covered so you can easily maintain the fabric should any accidents happen or have a new cover made by them if you want to move it to a different part of the house eventually.

  • The lead times were 8 to 12 weeks on a good number of pieces and many were in the $800-1000 range. Walmart had a nice option, with cotton twill as opposed to micro suede and velvet. Had about a 2 week turn around and could be picked up in store to avoid any shipping charges. Totaled around $350 with a variety of fabrics offered, matching ottoman also available. We get it this weekend, but it looks great. And had top reviews. Good luck!

  • I tried loads of gliders and actually really disliked all of them. They seemed rickety and squeaky and unstable and I wanted something which would be able to be used in our living room area once LO was grown up a bit.. So we're going to order the Ikea Strandmon wing chair and foot stool instead. Total in UK is £230. Very sturdy, nice and spacious, looks cool, very comfy.

Can't decide on colour though. They do grey, bright orange, navy and cream. We are team green, with a neutral coloured cream / oak nursery. Was going to go for cream (not in photo) but actually both the grey and the orange might look nice as well.
  • Over half of the gliders at my babies r us were broken or creaking already. I had heard good things about the dutilier brand but didn't want to drop $700 on one. They are not pretty and I had no plans to move it into the living room when I was done with it. I found a dutilier glider on craigslist for $75. I picked it up and cleaned the cusions. I love it. It rocks while it is reclined and has a nursing stool that pulls out of the ottoman. We had done a rocking recliner in my sons room but it was too big and deep for breastfeeding comfortably. It also takes up half the room because it has to be pretty far away from the wall to be able to rock.

This is exactly what we did. We wanted to be able to keep it for years and still use it. We wanted good quality that would stand up for years. We even added the scotch guard to protect the fabric.

I have the grey Strandmon wing chairs in the library area of our great room and they are gorgeous, I prefer the lines and curves to any comparable pricier styles. It's got a nice slight recline so with a footstool would make a great nursing chair. Might want to add a small pillow for your lower back.

ETA- we don't have all those color choices in the US. Just grey and then the red and royal/navy velveteen covers. The grey is a nice modern neutral though, I'd recommend it over cream.
  • I'm using an Eames leather lounge chair and footstool in our master bedroom for my nursing chair. I got a plastic molded Eames rocking chair for the nursery, but it's admittedly more for looks than practicality- I doubt I will nurse in it.
  • I just had to duck in and say that, with my sleep-deprived mind, I read the title of this thread as "nursery guitars".

Now I want to hang an electric guitar on the wall in our nursery.

Super Jealous of your eames lounger. My husband has been DYING to get one. We love them but are waiting for LO to be a little older and less likely to poop/puke on it.

  • We got a Little Castle Mesa recliner glider. They have about 50 fabric and trim options so hopefully we will continue to use the chair in another room down the road. I really loved that it reclines to almost a flat surface so I could sleep in it if needs be.
