Help on name!!

My husband and I are expecting our second little girl in 7 weeks.  We cannot decide on a name.  First off, we really like unique and different names - fair warning. :)  Out first daughter is Fynlee Grace, she just turned 2.  We had Fallyn (Fallon) Faith picked out for baby girl #2, but my husband never really loved the name.  On Valentine's Day at dinner my husband, out of the blue, mentioned the name Livie, we would spell it Lyvee.  I really like it, but I am completely stuck!  I sent it to several people, with our spelling, and several said "How do you pronounce it?"  Is it really that difficult?  How else could Lyvee be pronounced?  So what is your vote?  Thanks so much for all of your opinions and help!

Re: Help on name!!

  • Their is a difference between unique, different names and misspelling names. Lyvee could be pronounced lie-vee. Livie is fine, but I prefer it as a nickname (Olivia, maybe Elizabeth). Way better than Fallon or Fallyn (which I would also pronounce differently from each other)

  • I definitely don't want people to pronounce it Lie Vee, this is something I really didnt consider!  And we wanted to include the y in Fallyn to be similar to her big sister.  And I like the pronunciation of Fallyn over Fallon.

    Thanks for the replies.

  • I'm not trying to be snarky, but what do you think changing the spelling really adds to the name?  I've always been confused by this because to me, it's just setting your kids up for a lifetime of having to spell out their names for everything, which as someone who has to do this, even with a normal name, I can tell you it's a major PITA and I've hated it my entire life.  So I just don't understand the reasoning behind purposely misspelled names at all...

That being said, I definitely read Lyvee as Lie-vee.  Even Livie just doesn't sound like a 'full' name to me, nor a name that fits an adult (which she'll be for most of her life).  So even though it's not my style, I like Fallon better, but I'd loose the 'y'.
  • It's not pronounced Livie. It's LIE-VEE. What's wrong with spelling the names properly? I like Livie, it's too nice to butcher it with a weird spelling.

  • I like livie but I hate replacing vowels with a y just to be different.

  • The fact that you felt the need to put (Fallon) in parentheses in your OP should be your hint that Fallyn is just a bad idea.

There's a grocery store near me called HyVee. That's what I think of when I see Lyvee. It's awful. Also, even the "normal" spelling of Livie is not really a name. It's a nickname for Olivia.

Please don't feel like you need to destroy a perfectly good name by inserting a y where it doesn't belong just to make it "match" your first daughter's name.

  • Holy crap what's with chucking a y in everything?
If u like y there are actual names with y in them- Jocelyn for example
  • Fallon is a leeeetle too close to phallus. And by a little too close I actually mean "don't do that to your kid".

There are many, many unique names, don't go making some up by adding random Ys.

  •  Is it just me or are people being alittle harsh in their responses?? It's THEIR child, they can choose to name her whatever they want, spelling included!! Maybe it's because my name is spelled differently, it's Krystle instead of your typical Krystal. While it is annoying having even family members spell it wrong, it's awesome to almost ALWAYS hear someone say, "Wow, I've never seen it spelled that way before." Mind you Krystle is a little more common than Fallyn or Lyvee, but it's about standing out from the crowd, not butchering a name. Unlike what PP said about changing the meaning of a word, it's not so much what the word means to everyone else, but what the name means to the parents naming their child.
