Mastitis

This is my second time having mastitis in the same breast...
I'm resting, Motrin, antibiotics, heat, offering the infected side first and often, pumping with deep massage (owwww)

Am I missing anything? It started yesterday and I'm so worried my side will tank.

Re: Mastitis

  • It happened to me too. The first time I was crying and took antibiotics. The second I just took the pain LOL, it was gone in 2 days.

I hope you feel better soon.

  • I feel for you! I'm on antibiotics right now for my fifth round of mastitis. One other thing to try would be lecithin for preventing clogged ducts. You can find more info on kellymom.com. Hope you feel better soon!

  • Antibiotics usually help. If they still don't work, then you might want to consult your doctor for new prescription. But I think your doing good treating it. Hope you'll feel better soon!
  • Something that helped me after 7 rounds of mastasis was Hibiclense. It's an antiseptic and it really seemed to help. It's usually in the first aid section of stores and they have generic brands as well. I wash with this after every pump/feeding.

Also my doctor told me to get new bras because she said that is why a lot of people get repeated mastasis. It helped but I think starting to use the Hibiclense did the trick.

  • Also, if you have reusable breast pads, don't forget to run them in the wash with some bleach.
  • You could try using essential oils. Specifically, clove and thyme. Apply to affected area as well as the bottoms of your feet (really large pores).

Would you mix these 2 oils together, or they both could be used separately for mastitis?

@Stonerwedding Meant to tag you so you saw my question. I'm interested in trying the oils, but don't know a whole lot about them.

I would use them separately b/c the have different dilution ratios. Both clove and thyme have high antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antioxidant levels.  For clove, you can dilute 1:1 in a carrier oil such as fractionated coconut oil. For thyme, dilution ratio is 1:4 (1 drop oil per 4 drops of carrier oil). I would suggest using a few drops frequently throughout the day vs using a lot at one time. I am a FTM so I haven't experience mastitis personally, but a friend of mine has had it a couple times, and has never had to go to the doctor for medicine but cures it with oils every time. Hope this helps :-) kujess1

Let me know how it works! There are other combinations you could try as well! @kujess1
