Babies on the Brain

6 Days late and negative pregnancy tests

Hubby and I were not trying for a baby just yet (financial reasons), but I was really hope to start soon. I'm 6 days late. I use a calendar to track my period and I've been on time for awhile now. The most I've been late over two years ago is 5 days. I've had sore breasts for longer than usual. I have little cramping here and there that comes before my period, but no period yet. I'm really hoping to be pregnant. I took three tests in 2 days. All said negative. Anyone can share their experience?. I think I'm just really anxious now and I'll be disappointed if I do have my period :(

Re: 6 Days late and negative pregnancy tests

  • Unless you were taking your basal body temperature to confirm ovulation, you can't know for sure that your period is late. Everybody's cycle is normal until it's not. Sometimes - for no good reason whatsoever - you just ovulate later than you usually do. Keep testing once a week until you get your period or a positive pregnancy test. If you're not pregnant this cycle, I'd strongly recommend signing up with Fertility Friend and taking the free online courses and then starting to track your basal body temperature. That way you'll know when you ovulate, and you won't be stuck wondering where the heck your period is.

  • greeneyed_bride, I did consider I might have ovulated later, but my symptoms did start around the time it usually does before my period starts. However, all this cramping makes me think my period is due soon. I will try to wait 3 more days then test again if nothing happens.

    Thanks.

  • Let me tell you this and please take it to heart- the more you obsess and hope that you are pregnant, the more you're mind is going to play tricks on you. If the pee test was negative, you are not pregnant at this moment in time. If your husband isn't ready, please don't force it, he will never be ready if you try and force it on him. I can't think of a better reason than financial reasons to wait so just give it some time, ok? Try to get the pregnancy thoughts off of your brain, and start charting your temps!

  • If you aren't financially ready for a baby you need to be on a reliable form of birth control. We get this question ever damn day. Pregnancy tests are accurate, they aren't just fucking with you. Keep testing til AF, a BFP, or 60 days without AF.

  • All great advice. I won't disagree. DH does know. And I also believe in the mind playing tricks on you if one really wants to be pregnant. Though there is no perfect time, we're trying to wait until we're both absolutely sure it's time for a baby. For now, I'll wait and see what the results are.

    Thank you.
  • @krissy1286 why did you flag my post??

  • If you are far enough along to have symptoms, you are far enough along to have a positive test. Like stated above, if it's negative then you aren't pregnant. If you aren't ready for a baby then use protection.
  • Hi, this is actually my first post, but just wanted to say you could also be having an anovulatory cycle. I was a week late because I didn't ovulate this last cycle, (which isn't uncommon for me since I have PCOS), but not ovulating in a cycle could cause you to be late as well.

Maybe you should try harder and get on some form of birth control.

What puzzled me about that post of hers though, was the TTC badge in the sig...
  • I'm still ticked about my flag (@krissy1286). It was my first one ever and for this?? Not how I imagine I'd lose my flag virginity.

  • @LilliSoLovely we are allowed to swear if we want. You can't flag for that, if that was your reasoning.
  • I just went through this. I have very regular periods - literally never been a day late. Last month was our first month ttc. I have been temping for a while now, ovulated on my regular day, and was so excited when my period was late. Started taking tests, all negative with first response. I started my period 4 days late. All I can tell you is that periods are regular until they aren't.

But in those few days that I was late but getting BFN tests I read a lot on the subject. There are many women who don't get BFP until a while after the missed period. It has to do with late implantation or your body taking a while to produce pregnancy hormones. Just google things like "19DPO BFN" and you will see what I mean.

Late implantation and low hormone levels are linked to a higher chance of early miscarriage. But there are many women who have healthy pregnancies in these situations, just hormones are slow rising. So basically - you could very well be pregnant. Just wait and test every few days. If your period doesn't come after a while and you are very anxious, make a trip to the gynecologist. They will do a blood test and if it is negative they will give you medicine to start your period.
