Keep or dump?

Went out for valentines day celebration with my husband and drank 2 1/2 glasses of wine over a 2 1/2 hour period. Got home and am wondering if I should dump my 7oz I pumped after consuming alcohol. How soon can I nurse? I looked this up online and the information varies. What would you do?! Thanks for the input ladies! :)

  • If it were me I would go based off of how you were feeling. They also have test strips so you can check it. If you weren't feeling really tipsy or anything I would feel okay. But I've never drank wine so I don't know if that is a lot lol.

  • If you felt fine than your milk is also fine. Like PP said, if you would have been fine to drive you are fine to nurse. Another suggestion, if you're still uncomfortable, is to divide the 7oz you pumped amongst other milk you pumped previously.

Were they fresh milk or frozen?  If it was fresh milk, they would have been OK in the fridge for a few days.  Whatever I pump on Friday, I put in the back of the lowest part of the fridge for DS's bottles on Monday.

A trick somebody mentioned on here that I follow now is to freeze my milk on Friday and thaw out some older milk for Monday. That way you rotate through your stock of frozen milk so it stays more current.

  • I had pumped it on Thursday. I thought it was only good in fridge for 3 days!! Took her back to dr today and now on top of the rsv she has double ear infection. So she won't be going tomorrow either. How long could I kept it for? Ugh, now I really want to cry!! Lol

    Yep. That's what I do

This is what I do on Sundays is use the oldest frozen milk. But if I work consecutive days, I will send what I pumped that day for the next day so I don't have to thaw anymore out.

Well, 3 days is ideal, but I'm sure it would have been fine at 4 days. More info here: https://kellymom.com/bf/pumpingmoms/milkstorage/milkstorage/

You could have also just frozen it and thawed it (or other frozen milk) on Sunday night/Monday morning...

  • Oh yeah I guess I could have. I guess since they were already prepared in the bottles I assumed I couldn't freeze them. Two of the bottles were left over from day before she didn't take cause she was sick and they had been frozen. I wasn't remembering I could have at least frozen the ones that were fresh. Won't be making that mistake again! Thanks!! That is like liquid gold!!

I know! I've been having major supply issues lately, and the idea of dumping 20 oz literally makes me weepy. I actually have frozen milk in my Medela bottles before (when I didn't have any freezer stash and needed to keep it over a long weekend).  I just take the nipple off and put on the flat lid. Not sure if all bottles come with these or not.
