Yesterday was library day!
I went to DD1's class party in the afternoon, and the first thing she did was run up to me and tell me that the book she wanted (that was too high to reach) was in her backpack. She asked the librarian, got the help she needed, and voila!
Of course, after all the upset and sobbing last week, she is now acting like the whole thing was NBD. She didn't even seem to get anxious about it when I brought it up a couple of times this week, she was very matter-of-fact about what she was going to do. It seems like the fact of *not* being able to do it immediately last week gave her some space and time to absorb the plan and get out from under the anxiety, and it didn't come back. Whew.
I had a conference Tuesday with her teacher/school psych and mentioned this to them, and I'm pretty sure they gave the librarian and her assistant a heads-up. I'd like to hear how it went from someone other than DD1 -- the school psych made note of library time and I need to ask if she got a chance to observe, or maybe I'll drop into the library next week and introduce myself.

This kid, though! I never know what she's going to build up in her head and what's going to be easy-peasy, and when something is going to abruptly go from one to the other. I'm just glad she got past the anxiety and was able to ask for what she needed. Baby steps toward generalization, right?
