DH and I will both be turning 30 in summer/early fall. While our trip to Disney was great, it made us both long for a trip without DS (total FWP, I know). We want to plan a little 30th birthday weekend in the fall to some sort of mountain area. We live in Kentucky and want to only have to drive like 4-6 hours. But don't want to go to Gatlinburg. Anyone live near/been to a good mountain vacation destination in the VA/TN/GA area? We like to do stuff, so preferably a place where we could hike, go to breweries or wineries, ride horses or something like that. Any ideas?

There's also Helen, which is a quaint Germanesque type town with wineries and you could hike at Amicalola Falls.
Asheville is really nice. Wineries, breweries, lots to see and do. I didn't notice it being smoky.
