Work vent/job searching anyone?

I just want to quit my job!! I am a manager and m boss just doesn't get it--he's a horrible manager and I just can't bear dealing with him any longer. Great, so I like my staff and here I am 6 months pregnant...and contemplating looking around. I know other people in the firm who started whole pregnant and went on leave. I'm just always stressed and don't think it'll get much better when I come back from leave. Anyone else job searching now or just going to wait? I'm the breadwinner of the household so wish I could just stay home but it's not an option. Obviously started a new job with a newborn isn't ideal either. #frustrated

Re: Work vent/job searching anyone?

  • I was thinking about job searching, but for a few things:
    a) depending on your new job, you may not get maternity benefits if you've just started
    b) breaks in healthcare coverage would be bad
    c) I don't know about you, but I'm having so much trouble concentrating right now, I doubt I could survive an interview anyway...

If you can survive until you deliver at your current place, take the maternity benefits, and then you can figure out what you want to do after that, that was my conclusion.

  • I've been unemployed since July and just started job hunting this week. I'm in a different situation than you. My salary is a joke compared to DH so it doesn't matter if I work. I'll be lucky if I can find a job that will pay me enough to cover daycare for 2U2. We were TTC when I had to leave my previous job so I decided to stay home with DD for a few months because I didn't want to start a new job and get KU right away. It didn't seem fair to the employer. I'm hoping that by looking now I can find a position starting in September. I have my first interview Monday so we'll see how people react to the giant belly. I might bring up the fact that I'm due in May and would prefer to start in September but that I'm also willing to start immediately, and don't expect any maternity benefits.

  • I'm in a similar situation. I'm miserable at my current job, but I'm also the breadwinner/insurance carrier for the family. We decided that I'm going to stick it out here, take my maternity leave (paltry though it is), and start looking afterwards. A lot will also depend on DH's work situation. He's currently in a contract position and is looking to get changed over to a full-time employee with benefits. If he can nab us insurance soon, it'll greatly help me to move on sooner.
