FFFC

Anyone have a good Vday confession? or any for that matter?

Re: FFFC

  • I've never been excited about valentine's day. It was always way to stressful for me to enjoy, even back in HS when everyone was getting roses in homeroom. It stressed me out so much! I think that has carried over into my adult life. The chocolate is good though :)

  • @nonniedee I did too! Like years ago
  • Loading the player...
  • I have another one, BR.  I hate feeding solids. I miss the days of EBF because it was so clean and quick. We basically skipped purees because he hated them, so we are on all table foods. He makes such a giant mess that I dread feeding him. I try to find food that aren't as messy too
  • LO has been sick for about a week.  I started wiping his nose first with special boogie wipes...then just diaper wipes...and this morning I started using my shirt.
    I use her shirt.

  • I still have my Christmas tree up.  My SO is Jewish and he jokingly comments that he is going to burn it if it doesn't come down soon.
  • I hate the word "panties" lol
  • LOL, I totally thought Shirley Temple was already dead, too!
  • I finally got out of the house with DS and we went to baby story time at the library. I thought it was pretty lame and I spent most of the time looking around at the other kids who were enjoying themselves and wondering how old they were. DS just kept getting pissed off that he had to stay in my lap and then even more pissed when I wouldn't let him put the instruments in his mouth.
  • My FFFC is I never seem to have a good one, can't think of one or it happens earlier in the week and by Friday I've forgotten. I need to start writing this shit down.

  • My FFFC is that I hardly ever offer DS solids. I waited until he was 6 months and did BLW. He did pretty as well at first because he immediately was able to bring the food to his mouth but he never really ate any of it. Of course since he was so young I didn't really expect him to yet. But now he is older and he is still just playing with it and he gags a lot. I think he is not really going to be able to eat much until he gets teeth. (He still has none and both DH and I didn't get our first teeth until almost a year old.)

Now I have started back at work and I work 12 hours a day and my mom watches him all day. My mom is really scared of him choking so she is reluctant to do BLW. She keeps pushing me to do purees. So finally since I knew she wasn't comfortable with BLW and she's the one taking care of him the most right now I decided maybe I should do a mix of purees and table food. But when I tried spoon feeding DS he doesn't cooperate. He tries to grab the food off the spoon or he just refuses it. My mom told me to pinch his cheeks to make him open up and I was a little horrified because I do not want to force feed him.

So DS refuses spoon feeding and I am so busy at work I don't have much time to plan out meals for him so he's not getting the chance to practice with solids nearly as much as he should. I feel really bad about it and I'm worried about how it will turn out if they check his iron levels at his 9 month appointment. (His appointment isn't until he's 10 months because I forgot to schedule it.)

I'm going to go down in flames aren't I?

  • ^ No flames for you, @makeupgeek, but your mom gets a big WTF from me!

I'm sorry you're struggling to keep up with it, it's so hard when you're back at work and your caregiver isn't on board - I'll try to PM you some suggestions later because I've been in your shoes!

  • @makeupgeek

I have been not so great with the solids as well, and I actually took a little time off with them which I think kind of helped because my LO was also refusing them and I didn't want it to be a daily battle.

So, what has helped me...is letting LO hold his own spoon and chew on his spoon while I feed with another.

I also will sometimes feed him with my finger and give him samples of whatever soft food I eat by finger as well...if he likes it I switch to the spoon sometimes and he will accept it.

Thank you @pumpkinandthepeanut and @coffeeandbooks. I will try out any advice you can give me! I have really felt horribly guilty about not getting to work with him much on eating. Luckily after April 15th I am back to mostly SAHM status. In the meantime I'm going to do what I can on weekends.

And yeah I was definitely giving my mom major side eye....

  • @makeupgeek what if you let her try giving him cereal or oatmeal instead of purees?  Would that be a good compromise for you?

I agree that the spoon play helps.

  • I've got a few.

-I ate an entire loaf of banana bread in 3 days.

-DD is a horrible sleeper so when she wakes up for the day (usually around 6 or 7 am) I let her whine/babble in her crib until she gets pissed. Well this morning I was so exhausted that I let her whine a bit longer than usual. When I came into her room I find her with her foot stuck between the crib slats. She was probably lying there like that for almost 5 mins. I felt really bad.

-Later, I went out for lunch with a friend. DD had a minor poop-splosion and a little got on her pants. I left her in those pants while I ran errands because I didn't feel like changing her outfit.

-Even though its Valentine's day I'm avoiding DTD like the plague. I'm so effin tired.

    MOTY and WOTY fosho.
  • I'm being a mopey Valentines brat. DH didn't get me flowers or a gift, and I'm feeling hurt. Almost every teacher at school had flowers delivered today, so I was really hoping there would be some waiting for me when I got home. I know I should get over it but I can't help feeling a little mopey. I also spent a lot of time and effort on his gift. I need to get over my immature self. Flame away!

Make it thick and get the banana flavored one. But thick like you would get served at a restaurant.

What if you mix in some fruit with it?  Bananas or apples or pears?  Start it off think and then slowly make it thicker.  Try different temps too.

    Good luck!

I'm feeling the same way. No card, no flowers, no gift. I at least got him a few gifts and a card. And his idea of a date was no where near romantic. I'm really disappointed because he usually comes through (even though I sound like a total brat) It makes me wonder how much he/me/us has changed since having a baby and it makes me sad.
Yeah, I think that's a big part of what I'm feeling. He always made an effort in the past, so it just shows that our relationship is not what it used to be.

:( That would hurt my feelings too. I'm sorry he didn't do anything for you.
I didn't get squat either. He knew I didn't want chocolates cause I'm trying to be good but a card with I love you would of been nice. I haven't had flowers at all for over 2 years. Hmmm I might buy myself some and tell him their from a secret admirer.

  • My LO hated cereal too. Then I started to buy the kind made by Gerber and in pouches (the already made individual serving sizes) and she loves it!

I tried mixing it with some apple and I even added a pinch of cinnamon. I haven't tried other fruits yet though.

Also I would have liked to warm it but I was using breast milk. I'm not sure if there is a way to warm it if it's made with breast milk.

? I always did. Just pop it in the microwave for 8 seconds.

I'm stuck in the quote box. I thought you weren't supposed to microwave breastmilk.

  • Your only using the breast milk to make the oatmeal. One reason not to microwave BM or formula for that matter is that bottles they drink shouldn't be microwaved because the milk heats inconsistently and they can get burned. The other reason for BM is that you lose some of the health benefits of BM. But you are only using maybe a 1/4 to a half of ounce. So you are not using it for nutrition but to make the oatmeal that you need the iron for.

I would get the Gerber baby oatmeal with banana in it, take 2 tablespoons of it, use a tiny bit of BM to thicken it, microwave for 10 seconds or so. Once he gets the hang of that, add 2 oz of fruit to it. Or you can try it with the fruit now. I think the Gerber with banana is tasty enough on its own. We are up to 3 tablespoons a day but we add 2 oz of fruit puree to it so we can get a fruit serving in.

We use formula now but from 4 months to 7 months we used BM. Actually, I have used water several times too.

  • I use BM to make her oatmeal. Since I pump at work, I always store the amount of milk I need for oatmeal in a milk storage bag, and then just put the bag in a glass of hot water for a few minutes to warm it before mixing it with the oatmeal. At daycare, they put it in their bottle warmer (which is really just a small crock pot filled with water.)

  • I feel dumb. That makes so much sense. I just had it in my head that you can't microwave BM. I will try the oatmeal again tomorrow. Thanks @Oogurl and @jayro10!

We were snowed in yesterday, so DH and I decided to get frisky and DTD in the afternoon while LO was taking a nap. He got a little too playful with my boobs, and got startled and made a face when some milk came out. I thought it was hilarious, but apparently it squashed his mood cause his peen went all

Haha, we say peen too! It's one of the body part references we still giggle at!

  • @makeupgeek I just wanted to add that my LO will only eat cereal really, really warm and thick too. I thought she hated it but once I started making it warmer and thicker...she started to love it.

  • This is what I do, make it real thick with some formula. (first pic) and then add 2 oz of fruit (2nd pic) and microwave for 11 secs. It's actually usually a tiny bit thicker but we emptied the end of a box today.

  • We still do rice cereal, though we could try oatmeal. But our pedi just told us to make it with water, for the flouride, since she's BF and isn't getting water, other than in her sippy for practice, which pretty much results in like .5 oz a day if that.
