Swaddling

If you swaddle, do you do it for every sleep/nap, day and night? Or just nights when you're trying to get LO to sleep longer?

Re: Swaddling

  • Just nights. He sleeps in the RNP for day naps so the moro reflex isn't so much of a worry as it is at night when he's flat on his back in the cosleeper.

We swaddle for naps and bedtime. DS has a tendency to move his hands a lot in his sleep, so he was waking himself up all the time. I think it also helps him realize it's sleepy time, kind of like his lullaby music.

  • We have been swaddling for both naps and bedtime.  We actually have just recently started to put DD down for naps with no swaddle, to try to help her nap on her own.  When we swaddle, she will nap for 2 hrs.  With no swaddle, about 30 - 45 min.  Our goal is that she will be able to nap and sleep through the night with no swaddle.  Our approach is to slowly increase the frequency of no swaddle for naps, leading to an overall decease of the use of swaddle, overall.
