  • Trish625 "supper" reminds me of Little House on Prairie.  It is not a word I use, but I like the homey Americana feel to it.

I think people over baby proof.

Obviously I'll proof the important stuff, but my mom only did the cupboards when we were little and we're all just fine.

This definitely depends on the child. I did nothing but lock one cabinet for DD. I am amazed at the stuff DS gets into.

  • I think we have a sue happy nation and it drives me crazy! Threaten to sue someone over something and everyone gets all up in arms and jumps to accommodate that person.  Not only does it clog the system with unnecessary lawsuits but it also makes the ones that are actually serious less so because everyone is so tired of hearing about them.

It's also ruining our healthcare system. Tons and tons of expensive unnecessary tests are ordered everyday out of fear of being sued.

Amen to that! My dad works in the health care system and a doc in his practice is being sued because a women came in and got the exact same shot she got the previous week and died from an allergic reaction to the shot.  How was he supposed to know that the exact same shot would give her a different reaction???

So it's snowing in the South and everyone is posting pictures of their "snow cream." I think it's weird and gross to eat snow. I find myself wondering if they caught it in a bowl or just scraped it off the ground. I don't know. It just seems dirty to me.
LOL we have this discussion every year in 5th grade and we discuss how precipitation forms around dust particles.  Those dust particles could come from anywhere; dead skin cells, poo particles, feed lots, etc.  It usually stops the kids from eating the snow (for a couple days).

Yuck. This past weekend my niece came up to me to show me her root beer slushie. I asked how she made it and she said, with snow - duh! Like it was a totally normal thing to do. I didn't even know that kids did this. Gross, gross, gross.
  • I've never heard of the snow thing, gross.
  • Wow. I didn't know that.

    I hate the word supper.
Now, some Canadians use this a lot. One told me that supper and dinner is different. They tried to explain it, but I didn't get it.

LOL I definitely say supper. I don't use the word "dinner" but if I did I would be referring to lunch.

  • My H says dinner for lunch and supper for dinner. It drives me crazy. It's definitely a Minnesota thing. Not sure why I don't follow that though.
  • I say breakfast, lunch, and supper. Dinner is a nice meal. Like Sunday lunch with the extended family is dinner, Thanksgiving dinner etc. If it's a nice meal I say dinner no matter when it's served. I grew up in WI so I'm guessing it's a regional thing?
  • Breakfast, Lunch and supper is what we use on the BC coast. I think using dinner for lunch is more of an easy coast thing I've found.

  • Maybe I am a Valentine scrooge, but the Facebook posts about how much people love their SOs really makes me roll my eyes.  Isn't it enough just to say it to the person you love?

Most people my age are ether just getting married or engaged. They have all these "first valentines day as a married couple!!!xoxo!!! #lovelife". I want to barf. However I'm totally loving my older relatives who say things like "30 valentines days later and we haven't killed each other!" That I think is great.

I would say it is a circle thing. I have lived in WI my whole life and it has always been dinner.

  • @lolalipsy, I dated a guy from Yorkshire, their "lunch" was "tea." I got so excited the first time his family suggested going for tea thinking it would be a fancy tea party, but then we just had soup.

Which is the bigger meal, supper or dinner?

I thought supper was a pre- bed snack, like milk and biscuits?
Exactly this! We used to have toast and tea or my Nanna would make a sandwich.

I say tea for dinner. It gets confusing.
