book rec's

DD loves reading, and we have a small to decent collection of books, but i really want to expand a bit.  I just get so overwhelmed when at the book store or on Amazon.  SOOOOOOMany books to choose from!  What are some of your favorites for this age? She likes lift the flap and otherwise interactive books the best....

DS loves books right now, any kind of book seems to be fine with him.  I have noticed that he tends to go for the animal themed books more often than not.  He likes looking at the pictures and telling me what each animal says.  He likes his Little People Farm book, but I think he may be getting bored with it now after months of reading it daily.

I know these are not reading books but both my kids love/loved the First Look and Find books at this age!  The only disadvantage of these books is that they end up figuring out the pages and they are no longer a challenge, but my kids still pull/pulled those books out daily even though they could have pointed out everything in their sleep.

My kids also seem/seemed to like the number books where the items disappeared with each page.  Like Ten Little Ladybugs.

We work our way through the collection at the library and buy him the ones he enjoys the most.

His favorite lift-the-flaps are Dear Zoo, Baby Danced the Polka, the Spot series, and anything by Salina Yoon.

DD's favorite right now is Pancakes for Breakfast by Tomie DePaola, and I think of the ones we own, it's also my favorite.  It has no words, just pictures.  But I love the message of it and I love that sometimes DD tells me the story instead of me telling her.  I think it's great for helping her learn about storytelling and building her vocabulary.

We don't own this one (yet), but I read it in the store one day and actually laughed out loud.  I want it.  I Want My Hat Back by John Klassen  He's got another one, This is Not My Hat, which is also pretty awesome.

We've accumulated more books than we have room for since DD#1 was born, 2 and1/2 years ago. We go to the library a lot. DD just picks our what she wants. We're trying to potty train, so I usually get a potty book or two. We recent got @bread and Jan for Francis" and "A New sister for Drancis." DD really liked these.

My son loves the boy version of this book as his favorite right now. Plus anything Dr. Seuss and the, "That's not my" series.

I don't think my son loves the "typical toddler books."  We have a bunch of lesser known ones I think.  But we have a ton of books.  He has a full bookshelf, and then several piles on a table beside his glider.
