3rd Trimester

Baby lowering?

So at work today a lot of my co-workers and customers throughout the day kept telling me it looked like the baby was dropping. Typically I just ignore them because they're constantly saying it looks like I'm ready to pop but today was a little different because I literally had four people make the same comment at different points in the day and it was the individuals who usually don't comment on my pregnancy. I read some articles to try to figure out if they're right but I honestly can't tell. It does feel like I have a bit more room in my upper chest and I didn't have nearly as hard of a time breathing today as I usually do but I'm just not sure.

Any of you mommies have a good description of what the baby lowering feels like? I know it typically happens around three weeks before labor but I'm only 33 weeks pregnant so it's WAY too early for her to be getting ready for departure.

Re: Baby lowering?

  • I typically can't tell when baby really drops..
I have a short torso so there isn't much room anyways. But most women say they can breathe better, heartburn goes away etc... Baby droppong doesnt mean you will go into labor anytime soon so don't stress. Also, it could have been what you were wearing today. My bump looks different depending on what kind of shirt or dress I have on.

  • That makes sense...I don't think she's lowering yet because I definitely had some killer heartburn last night!
  • @Leftie, good point. How exactly did you know when your son dropped? Did your doctor confirm it or was it just the pelvic pain and hip widening that tipped you off?
  • When my LO dropped I felt pressure on my lower back. Enough to feel as if I needed to go to the bathroom all the time!
  • I wasn't completely sure it happened when it actually did. It seemed very gradual but now it's pretty obvious! My husband also said he looked lower to him, which to be honest- is weird for him to notice! There is now a ridiculous amount of pressure in my pelvis and I'm really sore after walking around for any length of time. Also, and this is tmi... Anytime I go to the bathroom, the feeling of pressure is insanely uncomfortable. My doctor said all normal! And- I still get pretty bad heartburn too.

I noticed first by the way my belly just looked lower. I was crampier and felt more pressure in my pelvic area, my Braxton Hicks got stronger, and I had to go to the bathroom more often. With my first it was around 37 weeks and very noticeable because he was so big, and I had him at 38 weeks. My second was born at 32 weeks and it never happened. This time it started at 30 weeks. I don't think it makes a difference when it happens, it's not necessarily a sign of impending labor. If it is happening, you'll notice within a few days.
