C-Section Mamas

Are any of you finding it hard to work out due to pain or extreme soreness in your lower abdomen. I haven't worked out ( except going for walks with LO) in exactly 18 months. I tried 3 days ago to do some minor ab work outs. I am still in pain and its not the good sore after a work out. I asked OB and she said my body still has to heal and to work on exercises that help strengthen your core. I just find it odd that I would still be in pain 9 months after. Anyone else?

I have only done some planks and some exercises using R as a weight but I'm lazy and I can't say I've done anything strenuous but no pain like that.
  • When I do planks it feels like my scar is stretching. Not painful just uncomfortable

  • I guess the right wording would be discomfort. Its just odd that I still feel it. Maybe I just over did myself, hopefully I didn't do any damage.

  • I've been running, and I'm doing OK with that. I have a friend that's a trainer, and she suggests core strength exercises since CSs are major ab surgery and can take anywhere from 6-18 months to make progress without further damage. She actually won't do ab-only exercises with her clients until 12 months. Everyone's different though.
  • My only obstacle for exercising is laziness.

  • I struggle with extreme lower abs workouts. Things like v pulses and v snaps I still have to do with one leg on the ground cause I'm just not strong enough.

  • I'm in a different situation, but my doc told me that there would be pain... Especially if there is scar tissue, since it doesn't stretch like normal skin.
  • Yep when working out I'm fine but after it is uncomfortable!

    Exactly it blows!

  • I feel a weird pulling sensation. Could be my stitches I guess. I've definitely used it as an excuse to not lose the baby pooch.

  • Nope. I had 2 csections in 17 months. I started p90x ab ripper at 6wks pp. My abs were ridiculously weak but it wasn't painful.

  • No, I'm not in pain and I've done some strengthening work.  However, another c-section mum at the swimming class I go to says that hers is really still very tender.  She did end up with an infection though so I wonder if that slowed down the whole healing process. Hope you feel better soon.

  • Yes but I had multiple incisions so its going to be a long time before it doesnt hurt.

  • Out of curiosity did you have real stitches and/or staples or the glue? My OB does the dissolvable stitches and the glue and I feel I healed very well. Others who had the more traditional staples seem to have had a harder time.

It was the dissolvable stitches / glue. Its not exactly excruciating pain, it just feels very sore.I didn't have any problems till i decided to do ab based exercises. It has subsided a bit since I posted though!

  • I had the staples for my C-section. I am not in to much discomfort lately, I know I had a surgery but that's it. It was difficult with having a gall bladder surgery so close to having my C-section though. I don't know if anyone else had these problems, a lot of people I know had gall bladder problems after having a baby. I have to say that I feel loads better now that I am not sick anymore from having a bad gall bladder.
