I sent my kid to school with store bought Valentines and applesauce packets. Apparently that's not the thing anymore. He came home with a bag full of homemade, personalized cards, all adorably scribbled on by 2 and 3 year olds. Seriously, he was the only one that brought premade Valentines addressed by his mother.

I thought I left all my self-consciousness behind in high school, but it's rearing it's ugly head as I imagine all the superior preschool parents judging me for going to Target at 9:30 last night for cards and addressing them and taping them to applesauce this morning. Sigh.

I'm mostly being sarcastic about it. But seriously! Who freaking has time to make Valentines these days?

Plus, we just had a big winter storm come through. We lost power for 2 days and couldn't even leave our neighborhood until Monday afternoon. Making Valentines for a bunch of 2 year olds was pretty much the last thing on my mind.

eta: that's even if you want to do anything other than a card.  but who keeps all the handmade cards and looks back fondly at them when they're adults?  little kids don't care, it's just a pissing contest for the moms.

I don't even get this shit.  My kid would rather use homemade Valentine's as toilet paper if it meant passing up the super awesome super hero ones with an attached lollipop he picked at Target.

I didn't do store bought valentines, but mine are not even pinterest worthy haha!  DS1 only has 7 kids in his class so I couldn't bear buying a premade box and having to throw half away.

ETA:  All the kids have special needs so candy and a lot of the stuff that they come with is useless for us.

I had serious anxiety over DS's valentines. His first daycare did all storebought. The second place everyone did handmade with bags of goodies (like party favor sized bags... He had more candy than he got at Halloween!). I don't want to look like "that mom" trying to outdo others but don't want to do way less than everyone else... I definitely overthought it.

I did little plastic bags with a box of 4 mini tattoos and a tiny notebook and will have DS write his name.

Went to Target bought the $2.50 Monsters U cards and a $3.00 thing of 12 or so bubbles.  Done.  Pintrest can kiss my ass.

I think it's ridiculous that can't buy cards WITHOUT some crap attached to it anymore.  I don't want the crap and I hate giving it.  PS.  The ONLY reason my other kid has homemade cards is because she came home one day and decided to do it and did it by herself.  And they look like a 6 year old did them all by herself, because she did.  Team Vday Grump!

Yeah, I just posted in the WTF thread about not being able to find valentines without candy attached.  The idea of making cards never even entered my mind; screw that noise.

We did store bought ones.  Candy with DD's.  Erasers came with DS's.  The kids are in second grade.  I'm not on pinterest. I can understand some enjoy crafts and find making your own valentines as a fun, creative outlet, but it's not for me.

eh, if it's obviously made by the kid it's cute.  but if it's obviously made by mom searching pinterest and doing all the work so she has the best looking card in class, that's a bit much.

This is the first year I did store bought valentines.  The 90 year old man in me is continuously outraged at the price of something that is thrown away.  Plus, I am more than a little scatter-brained so at 9pm the night before the party I can have a meltdown and frantically make 30 pink hearts instead of putting on shoes and driving to 4 different stores that are all out of valentines.

I had to help DS1 craft a mailbox for his valentines. That was enough crafting for me. We got Angry Bird valentines and attached them to goldfish crackers. None of the parents of DS1's classmates are pinteresty. Even if they were it wouldn't motivate me to be crafty and original.

My DD is 17 months old and I wasn't going to do Valentine's for her daycare class because it seems silly to me.  But I was shamed into it when the daycare sent home a list of the kids' names and her "teachers" names.  WTF?  They are 12 - 18 months old, they don't even comprehend Valentine's Day.  So, we bought Doc McStuffins V-Day Cards that come with a little notebook and not candy.  I think it is ridiculous because now I feel like I have to take a treat or "real" valentine's for her "teachers" and the two directors.  It's stupid.  I have a whole hell of a lot more to think about than Valentine's.

Flashing back to elementary school and sorting through the stack of store bought valentines to find the least gushy ones to give to boys because you had to include EVERYONE in the class (tho I found out later not everyone did) and SIGN YOUR REAL NAME on the back and everything and they might think you have a crush on them if it was TOO nice and your cover is BLOWN.

Ugh, thank god my mom never got involved or she would have given all the lovey doviest ones to the boys from "me" and had me married off by middle school.

Forced valentines are the worst.

I didnt do anything for the other kids at DS's DC. Truthfully, hes 13 months old, hes only there 3 days a week (ok, 1 full and 2 half days), and I cant even recall the names of the other kids in his class. They're all between 12-18 months old.

Really??? Do I need to get my ass out and do Valentine's or no? Ok well since we're being honest here...I havent gotten DS anything for Valentine's day. Its not like he's going to sit and eat a box of chocolates. Oops. Parenting fail?

I wouldn't do it for daycare. He goes to preschool 2x/week for a couple hours and they sent home a note saying that they would be celebrating Valentine's Day today and to please feel free to bring cards or treats for the class, along with a class list, so I felt kind of obligated.
