High-Risk Pregnancy

ICP diagnosis?

Hi ladies, was hoping some of you could shed some insight for me. I was tested on Sunday for ICP, the results came back with bile acid levels at 9.5 which my Drs said was not elevated at all and that ICP is not diagnosed until levels are in the 40s. From everything I've read, that's not true and its seems most women are diagnosed with levels as low as 9 or 10. I'm just not sure what to do. I'm 29 weeks and itching SO bad along with a few other ICP symptoms. Thoughts? Is 9.5 elevated or is it really not a big deal?

Re: ICP diagnosis?

  • Hi Meg. I was wondering how the rest of your pregnancy went.  I am 29 weeks and just got medication for ICP as my bile levels were at 48.  Meet with the Dr tomorrow to discuss it all

  • Anything under ten is considered negative for ICP at my ob office. When I was diagnosed last pregnancy my levels were at 119! I only started having symptoms days before. Some people are more sensitive to the bile acids in their system I think. I'd have them retest your levels every 1-2 weeks and ask for actigall to ease the itch now.
