I've loved this name for years but now that I'm having a girl, I don't know if I can commit. Just wanted to get others' opinions. My friends and family actually love it, and I like different names so we'll see...
I actually saw it on a thread here years ago when I was pregnant with my son and liked it...now, that I'm having a girl just thought I'd get some insight on it. The reason I posted it now was to get honest replies so thank you, ladies.
I think Irelynn Rose is a unique, but nice, name. Irelynn is at first sight different, but it doesn't take much to adjust to it, and Rose is simple and gives it a balance. While Irelynn sounds remotely similar to Ireland, I wouldn't go so far as to describe it as a misspelled country. It's definitely different, so I can understand getting cold feet. I've done that with a good many names we've thought up.
Regardless, go with what you'll love in the end. There will always be someone who hates it.
Thank you all for the input. I didn't make it up to be honest...I've seen it several times online in different forums. And it's spelled either Irelynn or Irelyn. Thought it had a nice ring to it. Thanks again, ladies.

I mean, to me there's no difference between you and some other random person on the Internet making it up. Either way, it's not a name with any substantial meaning or history. Which is fine if you like that sort of name, it's just that most people on this board (including me) aren't really into that. You can choose a name that is a pleasing combination of sounds, or you can choose one that has significant meanings and associations. A lot of names have both of those things going for them. I feel, since I can only have a finite number of kids, it's a shame to waste a naming opportunity on something that sounds good but is vapid as far as meaning goes.
I do like Irene quite a lot. It has a great meaning (peace) and a long history. It's familiar enough that it's easy for people to pronounce and spell, but it's not used very often. And I think it's pretty, though your opinion may differ. To me, those are factors that make a name not just different, but different in a good way.

I can't tell if it's a "variation" (read: misspelling) of Ireland or a smoosh name (of Irene and Lynn).
I'd "be okay" with someone naming their DD Ireland. It's not my style but I don't think it's horrible. But Irelynn is bad. It sounds like a slur if that makes sense... the syllables just mush together.
I do love Irene and would looove seeing a little girl with that name. Do you like that?
And I always feel bad for kids who are named after easily identifiable locations and then end up traveling to that place eventually. Awkward introductions abound.
That said, my kid is named after a town/manor in Ireland that I visited (Adare) but that's not something everyone is familiar with.

It looks like a creative spelling of Ireland to me. On top of not like that, I see Ire-lynn when I look at this, and considering that ire means anger or wrath that would ruin it for me even if it was a real name.

I had a friend named Irelynn growing up so this doesn't seem that unusual to me. That being said, it's a made up name. If you love it, use it, but be prepared for people to side-eye.
Ireland Rose is fine, if that's your cup of tea. Irelynn is not, IMO. I don't get the appeal of names like this at all. I know it sounds pretty, but the spelling will not only be torture for your little one, but for everyone else who tries to spell it for the rest of her life. She will have to spell her name over and over. On top of that, I always thought non-traditional spellings of names just make the parents look like they don't know how to spell. Lastly, she will need a job one day, and a respectable name to go with it. I think she would have an easier time with Ireland, rather than Irelynn.
What about Ira Lynn? Nms but at least Ira is a real name. Or Myra Lynn? Or just use Ireland.
Ira is a man's name. Please don't use Ira for a girl.
Actually Ira is also used as a nn for the Russian Irena. Regardless, I'd rather see a properly spelled legit male name on a female than a made-up mess like Irelynn.
