High-Risk Pregnancy

Intro/pre-e questions

Hey ladies! I've lurked over here but haven't posted. Just wondering if there are any pre-e ladies over here and if you had any warning signs? I have high blood pressure normally and am medicated for it, so we knew pregnancy could make it worse. So far it's been okay until the last few days. It's been on the rise and the dr upped my meds (I've only talked to them over the phone). I have a checkup tomorrow (35 weeks) and start nsts next week. I'm just so anxious all of a sudden and don't know if I'm reading into symptoms (upper right abdomen pain into my shoulder, seeing stars, dizziness) or if it might be the onset of pre-e. Not looking for medical advice of course...just others experiences :) TIA

Re: Intro/pre-e questions

  • With DS I had pretty significant swelling of my feet, hands, and face, high BP, pain under my ribs on the right side, and a head ache. When I go to the MFM they always ask me if I am dizzy or having any visual disturbances to determine if I am developing pre-e. Since you already have an appointment I wouldn't worry; they will check you thoroughly and be sure to tell them about all of the symptoms you mentioned here. It's hard not to read into everything but they will be able to give you the most helpful info. Good luck!

I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.

  • My symptoms were mostly swelling. I really didn't have any of the others----The good news is with the NST and the bio physicals you will be monitored so closely that they will catch it if it is getting too bad.

I delivered at 35 weeks with pre-e with HELLP with my DS. All went well and he is perfectly healthy!

  • Interested in how it goes at your appointment! I have high bp as well and I take my bp at home every day to make sure it doesn't go high. I have issues at the office, I am always nervous and my bp spikes :(

  • Also been lurking here a bit but haven't posted til now :)

I'm 32w with di-di twin girls, and was admitted with pre-e at my MFM appointment 9 days ago. I had no high BP pre-pregnancy but developed gestational hypertension early in my pregnancy. It was managed really well with a very low dose of labetalol right up until last week when it spiked. Now I'm on triple the dose.

I didn't have any other symptoms at the time but had very slightly elevated proteinuria (0.5g/24hrs) upon admission to hospital. My BP is stable now but still a little on the higher side, and the protein is increased to 1.6 but otherwise I'm still completely without symptoms. No headache, no blurry vision, no belly pain etc.

My MFM is monitoring me closely and we're taking things day by day. Lots of frequent BP checks, stress tests for the babies and biophysical scans. So far my baby girls are doing perfectly. Hoping my condition stays stable enough to keep them baking a while longer :)

As Pp have said, if something feels off or if you are just generally concerned check with your doc.
  • Don't hesitate to go to your dr if you have any symptoms of pre-e.

My symptoms were swelling, seeing blinking black squiggles (a minute or so at a time and not consistent), headache, general feeling unwell.

My mom dragged me to the dr (37.3 weeks) and my bloodpressure was up (168/90 something) /protein showed up in my urine.  The dr on call didn't want to deal with it, and told me to wait until my OB appointment 3 days later.  A nurse hauled me aside and recommended that I go to the hospital I would deliver at for a second opinion.  I did, and they immediately put me on labetalol and started inducing me the very next morning.

Trust your insticts.  If you feel that something is off, go and get it checked out.
