Idk. I don't get the best feeling from her just from this one glimpse into her personality from this article. It just sounds like she's an excuse maker. Food and diapers do not have to be expensive. And even with a 16 pound baby, gaining 110 pounds is ridiculous. It also makes me wonder if this was a case of missed GD diagnosis.
Annalee was 10lbs, and I was in so much pain those last few days. I can't even imagine 16lbs...
I also know now that next pregnancy, I will be sticking to an eating plan (ie: not just eating whatever I wanted) and getting some sort of exercise. I gained about 60lbs, and NEVER want to do that again.
I think I would be sad as the mom that I never got that tiny newborn. I feel like DS is big at 14lbs now. It also must've felt like carrying triplets, eek.
This article has a little more information. Baby is 28 inches at 5 months and mother is diabetic. They also blame her American Samoan genetics. They seem really focused on wanting this record which they see as an honor.
Weight gain during pregnancy can absolutely factor into the size of a baby at birth...especially if the mother has GD! Andplusalso, the more weight someone has on them, the more likely it is that their hormones are going haywire. Case's in point: many women with PCOS are overweight and have hormonal issues, people with adult onset diabetes are commonly overweight, men who are overweight have more erectile problems, etc. #itsscience
I had a 9lbs baby and a 10lbs baby and gained 80lbs both pregnancies. I started at 120 so I am pretty small. I wouldn't change it for anything. I love my fat babies. Small babies freak me out and don't have chubby rolls! I didn't have GD either time.
I also started my 2nd on rice cereal at 3 1/2 mths. He was screaming his head off after 2 1/2 hours of having an 8oz bottle. That much formula is extremely unhealthy. With cereal he goes 4-5 hours. And I don't have to give excessive amounts of formula.
I know 16lbs is huge but as long as both mom and baby are healthy, what does it matter?

I don't know why that newborn had to wear 12 mo clothes. IIRC, Carters 9 mo starts at 16.5 lb, so unless he's super long I would think he was in that range instead. Same size as the 6 yo makes no sense either. Not a well written article. Anyways, I had a 9 lb 8 oz baby and only gained 17 lbs. I didn't lose a bunch of weight at the beginning, that was my total weight gain. I started out heavy though. I'm guessing that has to factor in too, right?

I don't...I mean...why were you trying to give him 8 oz of formula? I has confuse.

The bolded confuses me. Esplain.
Well obvs @amjoy25 giving cereal which has only simple carbohydrates and basically no nutritive value beyond that would be better than giving formula which is well balanced and complete with carbs, proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals.
So, this lady, who was completely unhealthy and gained 110 pounds during pregnancy wanted to come out to the media to "set the record straight" that her baby is the biggest born in California.
Because eating everything in sight and gaining 110 pounds in 9 months is such a hard thing to do?
16lbs? Fuck that. Serious disregard for docs advice/suggestions/"orders" had to have happened. All giant baby nonsense aside. My doc suggested we slowly start rice cereal now. (4months.) For practice and to help replenish her iron stores. Something about 4 months being about the time their iron levels drop.
I payed attention but didn't take notes, to anxious about A's shots.
Oh lord. I meant you should only be giving a baby no more than 32oz of formula a day. If my baby is eating 8oz bottles every 2-3 hours, that's way over 32oz. I am saying the formula isn't enough to satisfy him now, but cereal helps. He is already over 19lbs, he is a big hungry boy.

I'm just curious where you heard this. At our two month visit they gave us a printout of what to expect between that and our four month visit and it said that by four months a FF baby might be eating up to 40 oz a day.
Married my love 8-25-12
TTC #1 September 2012. BFP 2-2-13. DS born 10-16-13.
TTC #2 in December 2014. BFP 12-31-14. Expecting a September baby!

My pediatrician also says that when a baby reaches 32 ounces of formula a day, she likes to start slowly introducing cereal one tablespoon at a time.
I never heard this either @ajoyd...I just researched it. I guess if they are eating more than 32 oz of any type of milk, not just formula, then they need solids also to satiate them. My pedi hasn't said anything to me about maximums, and I'm positive she gets more than 32 oz some days. Bananas it is!

My pedi doesn't say to mix it in the bottle though or anything like that. DD is close to the 32 oz but I don't feel she's ready yet so I'm going to wait a little longer.

Iron begins to diminish around 7-9 mos and the amount is so minimal you wouldn't need much more than a tspn a day of supplement to regain it. I fear you have an old school doctor. I would also recommend iron rich veggies rather thank lab fortified rice cereal.

but but but
We can argue the correct amount of formula to feed all day. I was also side eying the bolded part... teeny baby moms, apparently your babies freak out Wino

@nryan55 I was responding to someone saying mommies of large babies are missing out or something like that. Not meaning they look freaky just they are more fragile to hold and stuff like that. Prolly should've made that clear. I seriously am a nervous reck holding a smaller baby.
Could be, I've heard that before. They give cereal to help reflux babies as well. So either way, the cereal has helped so much. He goes 4-5 hour now. We have our 4mth check up tomorrow, will ask.

I was always too afraid to hold other people's babies too. I was afraid I'd break them.
@deedee1017...I am literally crying. That gif. It's a good one. I keep watching it. Bravo. You win the internets today.
Thanks, doll.
I always love the reaction on the other people's faces in this gif ^^^^ I have no idea what was being said, but they are all giving JLaw the stinkface. Look at the lady in the upper left corner going "Ohmygod"

I'm pretty sure this was a reaction shot to the "we saw your boobs song" in which it was noted Jlaw has never shown hers.
Yea. My six year old is 48" and pretty average. Any baby as tall as she is would be fucking creepy. But evidently not as freaky as my 11lb four month old. She's pretty fragile, what with being able to hold her torso up and claw your eyes out and everything.

Ha ha yeah I guess I better put my sweet LO in a bubble, not yet 12 pounds and oh so fragile! For the record I didn't gain 120 pounds during my pregnancy, I knew I was doing something wrong! Maybe if I had I wouldn't have such a frightening child ;-)
